From the Timaeus: Quote: For these histories tell of a mighty power which unprovoked made an expedition against the whole of Europe and Asia, and to which your city put an end. This power came forth out of the Atlantic Ocean, for in those days the Atlantic was navigable; and there was an island sit...

R/S -

I guess the magnitude of a Black Sea flood would have to be the question. The site is on the other side of the Kargapazari mountains to the Black Sea. The same mountain range that feeds the Euphrates.

Gobekli Tepe is adjacent to an ancient river bed.

There's been references to Nevali Cori, a contempory site to Gobekli Tepe. I went to Google Earth to see where the site was in relation to Gobekli Tepe and found it 20-22 miles to the NW. I was surprised to see that Google Earth was pointing to the site within a lake. Unfortunately, Nevali Cori has ...

Hi all - If we can jump back to Gobekli Tepe mentioned earlier in the thread, I want to interject a question related to the current discussion (a couple pages back). It has been suggested that religion was the catalyst for the dawn of the neolithic revolution. After looking at the published images o...

From the "Harappa in the news" thread: Cognito wrote: "there are "cities" out there older than Caltal Hoyuk but, no, that's not the settlement I was considering. Jericho is older, being founded as early as 9,000bc by Natufians who displayed some Gravettian characteristics in...

Interested Onlooker: I'm not willing to go as far to suggest what this outside influence might be. I should leave it at this regarding this topic since it is way too easy to scrutinize and there has never been conlcusive evidence that an outside influence occurred. Getting back to the main question ...

Frank - You could be right and it was simply an enlightenment with the advent of writing, for example. As we see today, the more effectively information spreads, the faster technology accelerates. It really might just be as simple as writing was the differentiaing factor, used to teach, for record k...

Forum Monk - I guess my thread title should be changed to "civilization questions". This forum is a good sounding board with different perspectives. Probably the only thing most of us have in common is our interest in archeology. I've really appreciated the feedback I've received. It keeps...

Natural selection is about 'thinning the herd'...seems like a lot of extra baggage we're lugging around if we're not using it.

This is why I lean towards the idea that we've been subject to a 'foreign' influence.

OK. So, there are capabilities that are inate within our brain. In the normal non-influenced state, there is not a connection to these additional beneficial capabilities. There are multiple ways to make these connections to these inate qualities, using psychotropic drugs being one of them. However,...

From a genetics standpoint, based on my understanding, it would be difficult to infer a global connection when examining mummified remains. If someone was to humor the notion that there was a link between (for example the middle east or indo-eurasia region with the earliest S. American nobles), the ...

This story makes my mind spin.

First of all, you have to believe that a higher altered state of consciousness can be induced that can bring temporary beneficial cabilities. Possible?
