Peopling of Americas

Just playing devil's advocate here. If, and I don't doubt there were other incursions from other populations groups other than the Siberian route, but if there were significant earlier cultures from Europe or Polynesia or even a different location in Asia than Siberia, where is the DNA evidence? The...

Peopling of Americas

Here is a cite to a new paper which argues that the America's were peopled after a glacier melt in several successive waves. Ineresting DNA studies and good pre and post glacial maps. http://www.plos.org/press/pone-03-02-mulligan.pdf http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2008-02/plos-hin021108.php

preMayan Cave paintings found in Yucatan

Looks like they have just made a similiar discovery in the Chichen Itza area. Some pre-Maya paintings and some cave paintings of a date after the Spanish arrived in the same cave. Evidently there will be some photos in the next few days.

sex in the paleolithic

I don't have any particular problem with avatars. I would prefer signatures so that we know who we are addressing. My brief experience on the forum is that if someone completely violates what is perceived as acceptable they are called on it. It would be nice to have more women in the forum but I fee...

neanderthal/fox2

You're right nothing worse than a mouthy mouse.

Worse yet consider their confusion millenia down the road trying to figure out when, if and how they diverged from common lab mice.

mice/neanderthal

Did you notice that in the Nicholas Wade article that the mice that were implanted with the Fox2 gene developed new neuronal circuits in the brain and made different sorts of vocalizations than reg. mice. I would guess something like "Bring me a beer and some Stilton"

language gene found in Neanderthals

New article finds the gene associated with language in Neanderthals. Perhaps they discussed the art they were creating?
Hope this cite works.

dna analysis

If you plug your numbers into the search base at SMFG or Ysearch or Ybase, you can find out who else matches you, how far away the match is and from what country their furtherest known ancestor hails. Great fun. Found out my mild mannered dad was a maurading Viking. He was so pleased. Bought him a h...

Skin pigmentation Neanderthal/HSS

Well, here goes-- into the frying pan. I was following a discussion on a genetic genealogy list and it was suggested that HSS hasn't been out of Africa a sufficent period of time to develop differentiation in the gene controlling skin pigment to have light skin but that Neanderthal had been in north...

chachapoyas

Thanks! I'll keep poking around the web to see if any results are posted. It would be more interesting if the results were odd (European) but either way it would be good to know. As I was poking around earlier today I did find a site that mentioned a high incidence of albinoism in the Lacandon Maya ...

I agree that "white" is really a subjective term. However, I would be interested to know if DNA was recovered and if it fits in as one of the haplogroups found in native americans or if it fit in another motif. I realize that DNA is not proof positive of anything but it would surely give u...
