I don't disagree with you, Ish. I see your point and agree that Dawkins can come across much like a religious fundamentalist would. But I also have to say that, while it may be just as wrong, Christians have been lambasting science for so long that is about time it happened the other way around. If ...

Ish, You are correct, of course, that debunking the Judeo-Christian god does not rule out the possibility of the existence of god. Just how do you want to define god? If you go with a prime mover/creator that just started it all and couldn't give a rip about what happened after, then we are talking ...

Now, lets see someone in the USA say the same. Heck, even the ASPCA wouldn't go on record saying that here. What I want to hear is a fundy stand up and say, "I don't believe in evolution but since it is my faith, I will keep my beliefs in my home and church and not try to force my faith on othe...

John, Thank you for the trip down memory lane... and I do mean trip! Jefferson Airplane was always a favorite until I saw them in concert. Most disappointing concert I ever saw. Grace Slick was boring and sang like a statue. It broke my heart. I still listen to their music on occasion but I turned t...

They bring it on themselves, Patty, by putting their bible tales into the fray. Scientists, such as Dawkins, would not give a rats ass about the bible if these fundy fools weren't out there championing it as "the answer" instead of what it is....which is, as Ish points out, at best some s...

The case should be thrown out of court because the "stupidity defense" doesn't wash. I agree. This group paid $50,000.00 for their story. Just because it wasn't the story they wanted doesn't mean they should get their money back. Next time, get the evidence first. Stupid is as stupid does.

Boy, you guys post 2 threads while I'm typing! I tried like hell to remain a beliver. I then went through a long period of being agnostic. Then I went through the "if god wants me to believe, He will find a way to show me he exists." Several years ago, I finally threw all my emotional reli...

Min, you are exactly right. The reason Dawkins attacks the bible is because he using their own sword to chop their own heads off. Judaism and even Muslims are not fighting the teaching of evolution in our schools, Christians are, and the more liberal Christians that want evolution taught are not mak...

Question? Do any of you think that a "Q" document ever existed? I recently read a lengthy discussion on another forum about the document and its possibility of existence. Personally, I agreed with one poster that there were probably several Q documents consisting of parables, mysteries etc...

Do you think the Jews would have flocked to a messiah who did not manifest the character of a king and who would ultimately be killed at the hands of the Romans? If he actually performed the miracles as stated? And resurrected after 3 days. You bet they would. I would have believed if I had witness...

Has anyone here read "The Jesus Mysteries" by Timothy Freke and Peter Gandy? I am only a little way into it and it bears directly on this discussion. I am not aware of how accurate the information is but there are many footnotes of references for me to check out later. These 2 scholars see...

My apologies for the misunderstanding, FM. I have been told so many times that the Jews couldn't understand their own bible (ex-Jew here) that it is sore spot. I actually believe that many Jews of that time were re-interpreting many passages of the bible and that mysticism was being greatly explored...

Ishtar, Using your categories of early Christians, how much, do you feel, that the loss of so many Jews/early Christians in 70CE determined the direction of Christianity? It seems to me that if the Gnostics were mainly located in the Jerusalem area, their losses would have been numerous and easily s...
