Re: Cloth-Clad Clovis

WXBY. The main snag with that is that Iron pyrites, used with flint to produce sparks, is usually found in rocks somewhat unsuitable as tools or hammer stones. The quantity of hot sparks is also abysmal! Bush men use the fire stick as I understand it. I have doubts the discovery of starting a fire ...

Re: Cloth-Clad Clovis

For that matter, when did H use fire? using fire and making are two different abilities. Using fire may well have preceeded its making by some considerable time scale. Roy. In my considerably uneducated opinion, making fire probably came shortly after learning that banging two rocks together to mak...

Re: Cloth-Clad Clovis

The bow and arrow was present in Europe and Asia long prior to man's journey into the new world. Once in the new world it was lost for 10,000 years and then only developed as the Chinese were developing gun powder. There are lots of thoughts out there as to why the technology was lost. Resource den...

Re: Cloth-Clad Clovis

One man can heft a rock, bringing down a Mammoth doesn't seem to be a one man job to me. Why go after three tons of meat on the hoof? What part in choosing the Mammoth as a prey was dictated by the available weapons? What about, "Hey! There's three tons of meat on the hoof! What can we build t...

Re: Cloth-Clad Clovis

I guess it wouldn't look like anything, because it would have disintegrated. Except if it was fossilized. If we can find and ID fossilized flora and fauna, why not bows and arrows? Because there were jungles of flora and fauna... and just a few bows, atlatls and arrows. I'd still like to 'shoot' an...

Re: Cloth-Clad Clovis

Looking at info on this subject, I was very suprised to find that several states have an atlatl hunting season... extending their regular season. Atlatls are described as big game weapons... for BIG game, i.e., http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5221826 Maybe atlatl points are bigg...

Re: Cloth-Clad Clovis

Good point...! Do we have any lithics experts left who could shine a light on that? But, to jump the gun a bit, suppose we can tell the difference, then how does it pertain to the peopling of the Americas? Did atlatls come from Asia, and bows and arrows from the south, or the east? I have seen evid...

Re: Cloth-Clad Clovis

To rephrase in light of these comments... is there any distinguishable difference between atlatl dart points and (bow and) arrow points (both stone)?

If anybody can find just where it is and any more info it will be appreciated!
Look for Argos, Greece, on Google Maps.

If we are betting, I'll go with hoax. And not a very good one.

Re: This guy has his head on straight

If I remember, the original Barona lands and water were taken for a reservoir to serve the city of San Diego and they then bought the old Spanish hacienda. Perhaps the real issue here is the water supply for that residential subdivision, and their fears of more nearby residential expansion, taking ...
