Hi, Leona. Thanks for your response. As you probably saw, I was inclined to defend db because of her obvious talents and the plausibility of some of her ideas. I was giving her the benefit of the doubt and trying to extend some courtesy. But we have all asked her for more citations and other sorts o...

and another thing

In the spirit of my "yes, but"....appeal... In response to daybrown's latest: "Maybe. But....." A lot of the assertions of DB concern parts of the world that were behind the iron curtain, and somehow I wonder if the sciences in those areas have been as objective as they have else...

OUCH!

I am a bit skeptical about the allegation of testicular damage being a big factor.... The American Indians, for one, rode bareback, and I have never heard of any such problems on their part. Furthermore, I would think that this is something that would have been dealt with immediately if it had occur...

I was just about to write this note and add it the the thread...about
Amazons....so I'll put it here now.

Matriarchy is one thing....power and rule passed down through women.

and "Amazons" are another.

what if....?

Frank Harrist wrote: As always in archaeology, the jury still isn't in. Everything we say in the field of archaeology should be prefaced by the phrase, "as far as we can tell so far". It's an on-going process and theories which may seem foolish now may one day be proven correct. Discussion...

dialogue

I think you have to give daybrown a lot of credit for her posts and ideas. It seems that she has developed a unified theory of human development which she articulates very well. It is based only partly on archaeological finds. She talks a lot about dna, which is based largely on specimens from livin...

spear points

Yes, but this kind of spear was omitted from the discussion of the devolution of the atl atl and ascendancy of the bow. Is that because it was there "all along" and basically remained unchanged (like the dagger) while the ballistic weapons evolved? So how do you tell the difference between...

butt shot

Imagine shooting yourself in the rear end with an atl -atl!

You would have to attach the dart to a boomerang!

Either that or throw the thing and then run to get in front of it!

the birds and the bees

Leona, I'm sorry, but it seems counter-intuitive to me that early homo sapiens didn't know how babies were made. They saw animals mating and animal babies being born, and they certainly knew how to do it themselves. You think they saw no connection between sex and procreation? At what time do you th...

Let's see...the atlatl was replaced by the longbow, and the longbow was replaced by the musket and the 9-iron.

It is amazing what you learn on this forum!
