I am shocked by this trashing of the Turin Shroud. Last year on a visit to Ephesus we were taken to the virgin Mary's house. So it's all true - favoured Zanussi washing machines apparently.

Not sure why this is such a revelation. All ancient armies used mercenaries, depending on how this is defined. Many modern armies do the same - Gurkhas, Fijians etc even the US. Full disclosure! I too came a cropper on the Acropolis - nearly broke my fxxx ankle. The marble was like soap. When I was led off hobbling about I gave Pericles et al a serve I can tell you.
