Thanks for all the explanations! John, that was delightful to read, thank you. So, I guess my next question is, "what do the no-boaters use as defense of the inability of HE to be intelligent enough to build a boat"? Are they using brain size? Or do they have evidence of HE's "inabili...

I can't believe this list! I assume her point is any literature that opens ones eyes, makes one think or expands our knowledge of others should not be read by impressionable youth. Some of the books on that list are titles that I would stand in front of a firing squad to KEEP in my library. Typical ...

Can I start with a question? (Well, I am going to anyway...)
Could you all inform me what the "boat" controversy is? I am gathering that there is a dispute as to when early man first made a trip in one and where he went but what exactly is the controversy and ramifications?

I can't see squat in that picture. If you find another link, I would love to see it. Could you tell me what I am looking at? It appears to be the skull of some antelope to me. (sorry, old eyes). I even zoomed in!

However, it does look as if the Jews at one time, (Bible minimalists would say around the 6th century BC) took the Sumerian Garden of Eden story and either misunderstood it, or deliberately turned it on its head to invent "Original Sin". Quick correction, Ish. Jews do not have Original Si...

You can always go to Doherty's site and whet your appetite with his excerpts from the book, which I think constitute the first chapter or two. Oh, I have already devoured that site. It was my first real look at how it might be allegorical as I had been reading and searching for a more detailed look...

One of the ideas I am becoming more and more convinced of, is that Christianity succeeded because the Jews, who knew it was allegorical, rejected it. This forced the early Christians to take it outside of Judea and to the Gentile audience who did not know nor understand Judaism and their midrashic t...

Patti, I'd be very interested to see any midrashes that referred to Mystery teachings ... was it all oral, though? No, it was written down eventually... I believe about the same time as the gospels? To read the mystical interpretations of Midrash.... we are back to Philo! It is also where the Kabba...

I wondered if the Midrash would ever come into this discussion as I feel it is essential in understanding why the case for a non historical Jesus is very valid. It was during the time of Jesus' supposed appearance that there was alot of new interpretations of Midrash coming about. It was the big dif...

Quick answer is the Midrash is the "Jewish companion bible". It is the oral law and traditions that interpret the deeper meaning of the torah. It is everything from HOW the Jews were to keep the sabbath and HOW the Jews are to keep Kosher to the deeper (can you say Mystery interpretations)...
