Re: Hegra - Saudi Arabia Opens Nabataean Site to Tourism

Ho ho and this is not denigration?: "It's better than living in a sandy tent, wiping your ass with your bare left hand because your culture doesn't use toilet paper & water is too precious to waste on cleaning said shitty ass... Maybe I'm frivolous but give me proper hygiene any day."...

Re: First fifth century mosaic found

Its bit more complicated than that. For one thing when you say christianity what do you mean? Arian yes but Britain was the home (or Ireland since he was described as a "fat scot swollen with porridge") of Pelagius. And what was Patrick's form of Christianity like? Anyway whatever the reli...

First fifth century mosaic found

https://news.sky.com/story/historians-s ... s-12156885

Epoch making stuff. Where did the mosaicists come from? How were they paid? Are there any others?

No christian symbols.

So Romanitas in Britain was not just a veneer.

Oh dear no answer Hucklebery? Do tell us what is the source of your obsession with human excrement? "It's better than living in a sandy tent, wiping your ass with your bare left hand because your culture doesn't use toilet paper & water is too precious to waste on cleaning said shitty ass....

Re: Hegra - Saudi Arabia Opens Nabataean Site to Tourism

Oh dear coming from a confirmed racist who probably denies the holocaust (if they know what it was) that is rich. Like being accused of racism by the Broederbund. The US has been a disaster in the ME largely due to people with bigoted views like yours. A country that cannot eliminate brutal racism f...

Re: Hegra - Saudi Arabia Opens Nabataean Site to Tourism

It is odd the US attitude to non-white, non jewish people of the ME. On one hand it gives weapons, money, winks at state terrorism (provided it's against their own people), gives and accepts state visits. On the other it resorts to racist contempt calling them all "arabs" assuming everyone...

Re: Hegra - Saudi Arabia Opens Nabataean Site to Tourism

Personally it is difficult to see why the Saudi people have to apologise and change their customs. If they don't want to licence alcohol that is up to them. If they want to dress as bedouins then that too is up to them. You can buy a drink in Jerusalem. You can also find groups of men in dark suits ...

And on the subject of evidence - Rio Tinto "apologises" for deliberately blowing up two ancient rock shelters associated with Koories 40 to 45,000 years ago, and says it will restore them.

So that's all right then.

Re: Where is all the "STUFF" from Pompeii?

I don't altogether agree, at one time pilfering from archaeological sites was considered the "perk" of being a colonial power. If you had asked an Australian anthropologist/archaeologist if he was entitled to loot Koorie sites - loud laughter would have been the response

Re: Egyptian Glyphs in Australia???

Sadly OZ is full of this nonsence. The hieroglyphics are doubtless to be found near Lassiter's lost reef or the buried Portuguese Gallion.

Re: And, In News From Egypt....

Exactly - my personal opinion is that if we went back and actually saw some seminal events we might well be surprised at the numbers involved and the amount of exaggeration. One is reminded of Lincoln when asked by the Times how many Confederate troops did he estimate were in the field? He replied s...

Re: And, In News From Egypt....

A lot of so called invasions stretch the term. Did the Beaker people "invade" Britain? There is now a well established argument that there was no Anglo-saxon invasion of Post Roman Britain. And what scale denotes an invasion? The Arab armies which are supposed to have single handedly conqu...

Re: I Will Resist The Obvious Thread Title....

There is a rather frightening ghost story set in a Viking toilet, at first comical then less so. It concerns one of the men (dead) of Olaf Tryggvason and the last fight of the Long Serpent.
