Re: This Might Upset a Few Applecarts

You mean you had your doubts. I thought I've been here long enough for you to know me a little, since we seem to agree on many things.

Re: Underwater expedition finds evidence for early Americans ...

Don't write it off, just because it's about women. I wouldn't write it off for any reason. Since Adovasio's specialty is weaving and textiles, I imagine that he has some good information on the subject. Maybe I should have put a smiley face after that statement as I meant it rather tongue-in-cheek....

Re: This Might Upset a Few Applecarts

Prof Lewis obviously didn't see NatGeo's program on "The Human Family Tree." According to them they have it all figured out.

Re: Underwater expedition finds evidence for early Americans ...

It's called "The Invisible Sex" and came out in '07. It's about the role women in prehistory played in the evolution of our culture. He talks about how much of what women made were soft artifacts (weaving, basket making, etc.) that didn't survive. I could go on and on, but read the book fo...

Re: Evolving to make tools?

I like to think that even way back then a lot of people had insatiable curiosity. There was always someone who just had to tinker, just to see what would happen. Sometimes they had an "oh wow" moment and at another an "oh shit" result. But they kept going and passed that along to...

I have one other book by Adovasio and have found his writing to be quite lively.

If it works for anybody could you please inform those of us what it says. I have a "real" computer and it doesn't work.

Re: Underwater expedition finds evidence for early Americans ...

An online newsletter from Mercyhurst staff (sorry, didn't save the link) says they'll release a more complete report later in Sept. at a conference. Speaking of Adovasio, has anybody read his book, First Americans, In Pursuit of Archaeology’s Greatest Mystery ? Wasn’t aware of it until I stumbled o...

Re: Monte Verde Annex?

So...unlike the Club, I'm guessing that you don't think they were too stupid to get out of the rain? I wouldn't presume to know that. I just deal in facts, possibilities, and probabilities. And since mesolithic man everywhere else had already been building shelters for at least 10,000 years it is l...

Re: Artifact Qusetions

The September/October issue of Archaeology has an article on this. It's a conversation with Archaeologist Winston Hurst who lives in the same town. Haven't read the whole thing as it just arrived a couple of hours ago. BTW, Min they have an article about the "Earliest Canals in America" on...

Re: Next Wednesday 7-15

That's for sure. There's a hell of a lot of people willing to see it, and WANTING to see it. Is the problem that those who do not want it to be seen have so much clout that they can stop it? I know they can't be in the majority.

Re: Next Wednesday 7-15

A good effort even if they did wimp out at the end about pre-clovis. Prof. West shows up on the 3d day looking for comet debris. I should be able to get it out to whoever wants it by tomorrow. A very interesting chart of Clovis finds in North America showing an overwhelming concentration east of th...

Re: Ancient Chinese Fish Fry

People in many primitive societies still eat grubs and such. If you're hungry enough to eat that you're probably hungry enough to eat just about anything, including snails.

Yeah, there's nothing like someone really deliberately trying to pass off stupidity for knowledge in my field of expertise to put me in a really foul mood.
And your field of expertise is?
