Very interesting find

The Old World is a reference to those parts of Earth known to Europeans before the voyages of Christopher Columbus; it includes Europe, Asia and Africa.

Very interesting find

Post by Minimalist »

and thanks to Ishtar for the tip.

Canadian archeologists in Turkey have unearthed an ancient treaty written in cuneiform that could have served as a model for the biblical description of God's covenant with the Israelites.

The tablet, dating from about 670 BC, is a treaty between the powerful Assyrian king and his weaker vassal states, written in a highly formulaic language very similar in form and style to the story of Abraham's covenant with God in the Hebrew Bible, says University of Toronto archeologist Timothy Harrison.
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

Reinforcing the conclusion once again that the Torah/Bible is an opportunistic collection of 'appropriated' stories from other cultures. But total BS where Judaism, and subsequent Christianity, is/are concerned. I.o.w. that Judaism, and subsequent Christianity, is/are second hand, and built on 'borrowed' cultures and fairy tales.
So there's nothing authentic about Judaism, and subsequent Christianity...

Yes but leaving aside the Fundie mentality, what this does is lend credence to Finkelstein's position that much of the quasi-historical data in the OT was derived in the 7th century from actual legal forms/events/concepts. It may have been gathered, dusted off and most importantly edited during the Persian/Hellenistic/Maccabaean era but at the very least there was some written documentation to go along with what must have been a Canaanite oral history.

I agree with you that the priests wrote themselves and their god into the existing outline of the story.

Just the smiley of the guy with his fingers in his ears going "lalalala". I expect your computer to have problems but dannan is on this side of the pond.
