Epoch making stuff. Where did the mosaicists come from? How were they paid? Are there any others?

The spread of xtianity in the west is a subject of much Hollywood horseshit. It was hardly the result of pious missionaries going village to village and convincing people. For the most part they convinced the king of a given area that he should call himself a xtian and then all his subjects had to follow suit.
Also, in the 5-6th centuries most of the Western Part of the continent was under the control of Arian heretics with the pope being confined to an area of southern Italy. The Vandals and Goths sacked Rome in the 5th centuries and the Huns would probably have done so but there was not much left to steal in the aftermath of the others.
But just because Rome withdrew the legions does not mean that people who had been romanized for 4 centuries suddenly forgot everything they knew. It wasn't the equivalent of flipping a switch. Think more like slow, steady decline as the Angles and Saxons moved in.

Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

For one thing when you say christianity what do you mean?
Arian yes but Britain was the home (or Ireland since he was described as a "fat scot swollen with porridge") of Pelagius.
And what was Patrick's form of Christianity like?
Anyway whatever the religion clearly the craftsman still existed which means people still got paid. But in what?
If you are interested in the sackings read Peter Brown. He points out it was a fabulously rich roman family that opened a side gate in a deal. So Romae betrayed itself.
Said family immigrated to North Africa and did very nicely there.
