Buildings in Jordan dated to 20k YBP.
en thousand years before Neolithic farmers settled in permanent villages, hunter-gatherer groups of the Epipalaeolithic period (c. 22–11,600 cal BP) inhabited much of southwest Asia. The latest Epipalaeolithic phase (Natufian) is well-known for the appearance of stone-built houses, complex site organization, a sedentary lifestyle and social complexity—precursors for a Neolithic way of life. In contrast, pre-Natufian sites are much less well known and generally considered as campsites for small groups of seasonally-mobile hunter-gatherers. Work at the Early and Middle Epipalaeolithic aggregation site of Kharaneh IV in eastern Jordan highlights that some of these earlier sites were large aggregation base camps not unlike those of the Natufian and contributes to ongoing debates on their duration of occupation. Here we discuss the excavation of two 20,000-year-old hut structures at Kharaneh IV that pre-date the renowned stone houses of the Natufian. Exceptionally dense and extensive occupational deposits exhibit repeated habitation over prolonged periods, and contain structural remains associated with exotic and potentially symbolic caches of objects (shell, red ochre, and burnt horn cores) that indicate substantial settlement of the site pre-dating the Natufian and outside of the Natufian homeland as currently understood.

Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

There is a lot of evidence of a particular site being re-visited for as many as thousands of years by HG groups.

When your best building material is rock, why not use it?
And re-use it, and re-use it, and re-use it………

You know, you make a good point. The tells in the ANE are interesting. People keep building in the same spot over and over again and build up an artificial hill in the process.

You would think that if a site ( take Megiddo with 26 destruction layers ) was that much of a disaster that someone would say "hey guys, I don't think we should build here again."

Most of the destruction layers were the result of earthquake or war. In either case, if the site is sitting on a fault line or is repeatedly overrun by enemies you would think that someone would catch on.

But they never seem to. Is it a question of water supply? Or that any other sites nearby were either just as seismically active or indefensible?

We don't see that kind of behavior in the Americas or Western Europe.

New Orleans was not leveled...tamped down...and built upon again, and again, and again.

With freak exceptions, New Orleans is leveled and tramped down every time it plays Pittsburgh
