Allan,
Today I received a copy of an e-mail from Rick Firestone. Chris Hardaker had written wondering why he wasn't mentioned in The Observer article.
His reply:
"Robin McKie was unable to contact me before submitting his story. He talked mainly to Allen West [one of the co-authors of the supernova book]. The story is basically OK except that there are too many details that are speculation. The impactor was certainly larger than 2-3 km, probably closer to 10 km, low in density, and may not have broken up before impact. . . . The business of flaming fur and clothing is perhaps fanciful. Otherwise the report is OK.

The question is, how deep will you have to dig to find a Clovis-Firster in a couple of more years!
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

Great! The carbon 14 dates are all messed up. I'm gonna need a conversion chart soon.

Intriguing article, Beags. If true, it has huge implications for the archeological record.Beagle wrote:http://abob.libs.uga.edu/bobk/nuclear.pdf

Here's everything you wanted to know about the Carolina Bays but...
Good pics too. These areas were theoretically created by the comet under discussion.
I looked at the area on Google Earth that the comet supposedly impacted - at 43'N, 85'W. It must have exploded in air as there was nothing to see.

Ah - I see you read it the same way I did KB. If that's true, I give up. I'll just depend on somebody to tell me how old something is and not worry how they figured it out.kbs2244 wrote:This going to be fun to watch!
If I read it correctly, not only is C14 dateing not going to be the same for the North and South Hemisphers, but there are going to be "pockets" of different C14 just a few miles apart?
I always did think it was too neat and pretty a solution to a messy problem.
But I am very curious about some dating that never seemed right to me, like Tiahuanaco. Should be interesting.
Fiedel et al
I never thought I would see the demise of Clovis First in my lifetime. If Firestone's arguments holds up they certainly demolish the Clovis Big Game Hunter / Bering Land Bridge fantasy. The book is interesting, although filled with speculation in addition to decent science.Wonder if Fiedel is drinking more than usual these days?

BTW, Arch is already having a shit fit over this. Claims it is less plausible than his bible account!
Expect Fundies everywhere to take up the challenge!!

“This was a massive continental scale, if not global, event,” Kennett said. He and Erlandson say that they are currently evaluating the existing Paleo-Indian archaeological datasets, which Kennett describes as “suggestive of significant population reduction and fragmentation, but additional work is necessary to test this hypothesis further.” Earlier research efforts need to be re-evaluated using new technologies that can narrow radiocarbon date ranges, and, as funding becomes available, new sites can be located and studied, Erlandson said.
“As we have grown more confident in the theory,” Erlandson said, “we’ve been letting some of it out in informal talks to gage the response to see where we are headed and what the initial objections are, which will help us to maintain our own objectivity.”
