I don't know, my first thoughts are the local piece is some kind of skinning/ gutting blade with a "gut hook" (some modern hunting knives have these). :?

Definitely.

Jr. didn't go to school. He just hung out with mom and dad all day. And I'm sure they put his ass to work, while, at the same time they were teaching him the survival skills he'd need when he became an adult.
Back when home-schooling meant something!
