Religion

Here's where you get off topic and off center....Keep it nice, keep it clean, no sniping, no flaming. After that, anything goes.

Religion

Post by gunny »

Was thinking about why all civilizations need an "ALL POWERFUL" god? When did this start? Why did they come from above? As an agnostic before a football game & when some azzhole was shooting at me---I prayed even though a semi-none believer--no harm getting something on your side. Did perhaps aliens come down from the sky and so impressed the troops that it continued forever? Was asking a watered-down version of this question at a Christmas party with intelligent people until the looks received made me refill my Johnny Walker Black and talk about the Formula 1 track being built in Austin. Why do we need religion?

Consider the words of Thomas Jefferson, Gunny.
In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own.
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

Certainly something to the idea that relegion is self serving...

Perhaps early man just had a desire to understand the forces of nature around him, like lighting, and the cycle of the moon and sun. Stuff we MOSTLY understand now.

Not again!
Can't they just wait for December 21st, 2012, and then jump off a cliff?
Instead of letting the world end every 3 months?
Pfffff.

They couldn't post what I'd write.
