Archy, you are not well informed.

This is an example of your bible "morality" arch.

You can stick it.
it is amazing how most non-religious head straight tothe old testament to justify their unbelief. why don't you look at the New once in awhile and expand your horizons? probably because it is too easy to find your justification in that which you know very little

Hey, arch. YOUR people appended the OT onto the committee-decided collection of acceptable works, A/K/A the NT. Don't blame me that your people keep putting the goddamn thing there.

Your protestations do not change the image of your so-called god as a blood-drenched mass murderer more suited to father Hitler or Attila than Jesus.

You'll have to work that out with your spiritual advisors. I can't help you. I think it is all horseshit.

BTW, Osiris never killed anybody. He'd be a much better role model.
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

Further to credit evolution as the engine of nature it is not at all unnatural for human beïngs to cooperate as even chimps are perfectly capable to work together as they hunt or battle .Cooperation is a result of natural selection as it enhances the chances of succes of any endeavour as opposed to chaotic behaviour which only leads to failure .No need to go back far on the evolutional ladder of succes. In the nineteenth century the joint efforts of the labouring part of society ,which was heavily exploited ,joined their efforts to build labor unions and left wing parties ,leading to a better life and democracy in those countries where they were succesfull . It was not simply the industrialisation that lead to a better life for all but the struggle of organised labour forces that managed to get a bigger share thanks to joining efforts .
In general the whole concept of human beïngs joining hands to achieve their goals is not contrary to the laws of evolution as the concept survival of the fittest also applies to organised and cooperative human beings . I will now even use very simple language for Arch to understand :if one person is fighting two or more opponents he is likely to have is face smashed .
Of course if one is only relaying on a god as an engine in history one would probably not even understand this simple facts ,as proven by Arch .
I think therefore I am

And never do humans work together more than when they are uniting to smite unbelievers or believers in a different invisible man in the sky.

Add the doctrine of the trinity to this and it becomes a very sticky situation. Should one accept the trinity, then one also has to accept that Jesus had just as much of a hand in the atrocities of the OT as did the father.

Oopsie.

Those murders and mass rapes weren't "atrocities" they were "divine punishment." I learned that from arch. I wonder where Hitler learned it?

And Evolution Continues It's Forward March!

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 00472.html
"From 1970 to 2000, there was a widespread view that although natural selection is very important, it is relatively rare," said Jonathan Pritchard, a geneticist at the University of Chicago. "That view was driven largely because we did not have data to identify the signals of natural selection. . . . In the last five years or so, there has been a tremendous growth in our understanding of how much selection there is."

Pretty good article from todays Archaeologica articles.
"Signals of natural selection are incredibly widespread across the human genome," Pritchard said. "Everywhere we look, there appears to be very widespread signals of natural selection in many genes and many processes."

Our old pal, Rokcet Scientist, sent me this link.

He captioned the e-mail: Which is Greater? God or the Blob?

http://www.usatoday.com/tech/science/sp ... htm?csp=15

An enormous amoeba-like structure 200 million light-years wide and made up of galaxies and large bubbles of gas is the largest known object in the universe, scientists say.
The galaxies and gas bubbles, called Lyman alpha blobs, are aligned along three curvy filaments that formed about 2 billion years after the universe exploded into existence after the theoretical Big Bang. The filaments were recently seen using the Subaru and Keck telescopes on Mauna Kea.

The Keller family illustrates what may prove to be one of the most striking shifts in human existence: a change from small, relatively weak and sickly people to humans who are so big and robust that their ancestors seem almost unrecognizable.

New research from around the world has begun to reveal a picture of humans today that is so different from what it was in the past that scientists say they are startled. Over the past 100 years, says one researcher, Robert Fogel of the University of Chicago, humans in the industrialized world have undergone "a form of evolution that is unique not only to humankind, but unique among the 7,000 or so generations of humans who have ever inhabited the earth."

The difference does not involve changes in genes, as far as is known, but changes in the human form. It shows up in several ways, from those that are well known and almost taken for granted, like greater heights and longer lives, to ones that are emerging only from comparisons of health records.

Interesting research.

instead of a slow, continuous movement, evolution tends to be characterized by long periods of virtual standstill ("equilibrium"), "punctuated" by episodes of very fast development of new forms.
For consideration.
This might even dovetail into Mins' previous post.

Thank you Beagle, that's a wonderful link. I found a little new reading material linked from it. The chapter on evolutionary computing therein is considerably more palatable than the link I gave on the topic in a prior post.
