DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) - Hunters stalked giant camels as tall as some modern-day elephants in the Syrian desert tens of thousands of years ago and archaeologists behind the find are wondering where the camels came from and what caused them to die off.
The enormous beasts existed about 100,000 years ago and more of the bones, first discovered last year, have been found this year in the sands about 150 miles north of the capital, Damascus.
Le Tensorer said humanoid bones were discovered at a nearby site and stone tools used by early humans were found with the camel's bones, which are thought to be up to 100,000 years old.
So, obviously these were not HSS bones?
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.
All people today are classified as Homo sapiens sapiens--i.e., the sapiens variety of the species Homo sapiens. They first began to appear 130,000 years ago or somewhat earlier in association with technologies not unlike those of the early Neandertals.
I think I posted a simlar article in Neanderthal DNA (or somewhere a few days ago) These bones show characteristics of both HNS and HSS. That is not new in the Levant area during this time period.
I found it in evolutionary news. Same thing - different article. The article describes the mixed hominid found nearby. This was at a time when HSS and HNS lived side by side for twenty thusand years. This time though, HSS disappeared.

It sounds like the sport has been somewhat cleaned up for the tourists, but back in the day, I remember the Camels didn't wear muzzles, and fought in pits.
The animals' instinct is to knock each other down to win the right to available females.
Camel fighting thus sounds a bit like a frat party.
