Pygmy Mammoth

Post by Cognito »

Hey Beags. I didn't even know about that frikken pygmy mammoth ... that's cool! The next time I'm in Ventura I'm going to go take a look at that little guy. Thanks for the link.

Well, either the Hobbit is a diminutive H. erectus as claimed or belongs to some sort of local population of sapiens (see, I'm good at the obvious). The bones appear to be rather young. Does anyone know if any genetic sequencing is being planned for those bones? I would like to know since:

a. I'm too busy to surf the Net right now.
b. There is no extant H. erectus genetic database that I am aware of (or "of which I am aware" for you grammar freaks).
c. Because.

I think this is where the debate stands now. Should be a response next year.

Yeah Santiago, there is quite a debate going on there. I have my own personal feelings about the truth but the final judgement will take a while I think.

Somewhere on this board is an article posted by RK, iirc, that cited the intensity of the quarrel and even some of the very unethical behavior of the archaeologists involved. Some evidence was even destroyed!

I'll even wonder about the answer when we DO get it.
