http://archaeologica.boardbot.com/viewt ... ght=#27079I got it. Posting after our every post is harassment - stop now.
Playtime is over
http://archaeologica.boardbot.com/viewt ... ght=#27083I'd like to trash this whole thread tomorrow, and do it without any insanity.
http://archaeologica.boardbot.com/viewt ... ght=#27084Never mind - you're going wacko again.
http://archaeologica.boardbot.com/viewt ... ght=#27087Do you have to spend all your time trying to convince people that you're very smart and an expert? It is all you do you know. Imagine your reaction to some nut like that. G'night
every one contains a personal attack aimed at meMarduk, enough of that BS. Firstly, you didn't handle anything - you went ape-shit crazy
who the hell do you think you are

None of that is true Steve, but this is amazing.
The smart thing for you to have done was return the favor. Don't read my posts, leave me alone. Instead you have harassed me everywhere I post. You've even had a couple of your friends help you in the endeavor. Very childish. You've been following behind me like a little puppy dog. Min also.
I may have to wait on the Pokotia thread, because you are such a destructive element in this forum. If we edit out our posts, it will be just you embarassing yourself in there.
I really wish you had chosen to ignore me back. You make bad decisions however.
I'm going to pour another cup of coffee, confer with a few people, and enjoy my day here. We'll see what happens.
I haven't said a word to you since you returned from your last suspension, prior to yesterday. And then only because I wanted to have a decent thread on the Pokotia stone.pick on someone else

Beagle & Marduk:
You guys need to kiss and make up. I am positive you both were married in a previous life just like these two are now:

If this cannot become a kinder and gentler thread, Charlie and I are planning to moderate your discussions with a baseball bat and can of pepper spray. The whole world is watching and this bickering sucks
AND DON'T GIVE ME ANY CRAP ABOUT WHO STARTED IT SINCE NOBODY CARES!!!!!!!!!!

Man is a credulous animal, and must believe something; in the absence of good grounds for belief, he will be satisfied with bad ones.

That was Helike, I believe. The story of what happened there has been proffered before as a possible root of the Atlantis myth. Doesn't hurt that it happened during Plato's youth, and not all that far from where he lived at the time.Minimalist wrote: Well...he "came up" with it in the sense that he introduced that archaeologist and the loss of the city well within historical times. I, for one, believe that Plato was telling a story but the image of a nearby city disappearing beneath the sea was a powerful one to add in to the story.
It certainly would have been well known to the bulk of his intended 'audience.'
"Digging For the Truth" is one of the less ridiculous archaeological programs on the History Channel. I will say, though, that Josh makes it seem like he's uncovering "truths" whereas in actuality many (most, probably,) of the things he "finds" were discovered decades before now.Minimalist wrote:The show was not bad. He's a dork but he's not as bad as you-know-who.
They've got a new show, by the way, that focuses on ancient technologies. Looks fairly interesting as well, and the first one didn't say anything about ancient astronauts or Annunakis etc. What a relief.

Much better than Drive Through History....which had me almost gagging last night as they fucked over the Roman Empire.
Bernstein showed up on Jon Stewart's Daily Show not too long ago and admitted that he was not an archaeologist. AT least he does not generally argue with his experts as Jacobovici did 1,000 times on The Naked Archaeologist.
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

I have played with the NASA World Wind application a little more and have succeeded in displaying the sea level which was 120m lower at the end of the LGM. If there is a particular area you would like to see, let me know and I will post an image.
The resolution is not a good as Google Earth but it is a very interesting application, nevertheless. There are many scientific visualizations possible.

The islands in the Aegean are a hell of a lot larger.

Prehistoric humans roamed the world's largest desert for some 5,000 years, archaeologists have revealed.
The Eastern Sahara of Egypt, Sudan, Libya and Chad was home to nomadic people who followed rains that turned the desert into grassland.
When the landscape dried up about 7,000 years ago, there was a mass exodus to the Nile and other parts of Africa.

One thing though, that I've wondered about, is that every source you read says that the Sahara recieved huge volumes of rain during the mid-holocene. But then they go on to describe the area as a lush savannah.
It would seem to me that in several thousand years it would be a rain forest.
I saw a map of what it would have looked like once. It was covered with rivers and lakes.
