Hasn’t anybody ever noticed that we find the arrow heads and spear points, but not the whole arrow or spear?
The wood rots away.
Flame hardened points on spears and arrows may have been used, but we just do not have any evidence.

Absolutely FT, and a further point, most animals especially the peri-glacial forms, think Musk Ox, were/are covered in thick hair, and any of that being picked up by a pointed stick would act as a brake on the shaft's speed and ultimately penetration.
This fact seems to have been well understood by our ancestors but ignored by modern day experts.

You're right there Min. A powerful Long bow is not a precision weapon, you can't hold the pull long enough to do much in the way of aiming.
In warfare they were normally used as volley weapons.
