Everybody knows cold air falls.
If the Artic is getting warmer it is because the cold air is falling to the Antarctic.
BTW, the concept the ice covers the continent all the way into the sea is bunk.
While doing some research on the old maps that show the coastline of Antarctica I found that rock cliffs and rock beaches have been visible for centuries.
The coastline has been easy to see for all who bother to look for it.
Current and historical photos show the dirt coastline.
But the headlines go to those getting close to the Pole.
Therefore everybody gets excited about the Ross Ice Shelf.
But the Ross Ice Shelf is just a frozen bay.
And that bay, because it is a bay and thus out of the winds and current, is a favorite landing spot.
So, if you are on your way to a headline making trip, and publishing a day by day diary, you are going to mention changes to the Ross Ice Shelf.
And those changes may, or may not, have anything to do with the rest of the continent.
