Look out, Stonehenge, here come the Wurdi Youang rocks in the Australian state of Victoria. A semi-circle of stones as been checked by an astrophysicist from Australia's premier research group, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), who says this arrangement of rocks is a carefully aligned solar observatory that may be 10,000 years old. It would have been created by local Aborigines, the Wathaurong people, who have occupied the area for some 25,000 years.

If it was a semi-circle it would be difficult to prove any intention unless there was some form of indication to show an orientation . However it tdoes look from the pic there is a possible indication ,the straight line of rocks , if they point to an auspicious astronomical event like a a solstice it's pretty good evidence for such an interest and intention to be attributed to the builders . Of course it's not guess work but not difficult either .Sadly we can't confirm it as we don't know where it is and the precise orientation of the rocks . Not unlikely that there was an interest in solstices etc at such a late period . The unjustified Stonehenge comparison rears it's head again .

This is the second time I have seen this article, but this edition has a critical new piece of information that I don't think was in the first.
"Dubbed Wurdi Youang, the strange stone arrangement was found on property near Mt Rothwell, 80km west of Melbourne -
its two points set in perfect alignment with the setting sun on a midsummer's day."
So, they were marking the summer solstice?

Yes it is old news .How many times have you heard this or similar " its two points set in perfect alignment with the setting sun on a midsummer's day." then upon investigation it's not quite as clear cut as that . I think I may have a plan of it but have failed to find and anyway it may be a different site but that one was definitely unconvincing . It's not that they were incapable of doing it , after all it is not difficult , but was that their intention ?.kbs2244 wrote:This is the second time I have seen this article, but this edition has a critical new piece of information that I don't think was in the first.
