Mazel tov!

Here's where you get off topic and off center....Keep it nice, keep it clean, no sniping, no flaming. After that, anything goes.

Mazel tov!

Post by Digit »

I wanted to send some sort of holiday greeting to my friends and colleagues, but it is difficult in today's world to know exactly what to say without offending someone. So I met with my lawyer yesterday, and on advice I wish to say the following:

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non addictive, gender neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday practiced with the most enjoyable traditions of religious persuasion or secular practices of your choice with respect for the religious / secular persuasions and / or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2012, but not without due respect for the calendar of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make our country great (not to imply that our country is necessarily greater than any other country) and without regard to the race, creed, colour, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.

By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms:

This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her / him or others and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. The wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.

Best Regards (without prejudice)

Name withheld (Data Protection Act).

Merry fucking christmas, Dig!
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

Today is the Winter Solstice in the northern hemisphere!

On the downside, its the first day of winter. The worst is yet to come.

On the bright side, the days get longer until Summer Solstice!

I must say that the "Christ Mass Holidays" amuse the hell of of me...

Millions of Christians all over the planet celebrating the Winter Solstice in traditional Northern European ways like "Christmas" trees, wreaths, lights, feasting, gift giving, and yule log fires!

The Catholic Church preempted the Solstice Celebrations. They decided to make Christmas a few days after Solstice to give the old timers a few days to sober up. Even they admit they do not know the birthday of Jesus Christ.

It certainly was a Pagan celebration, but I think that first and foremost, its a secular event. Time to have your firewood collected ( Christmas Lights!) , your hogs slaughtered (Feasting!) , and your warm clothes knitted and mended (Christmas gifts!) Fresh Evergreens inside (Christmas trees and wreaths!) are to cover the stink of the whole family being indoors for the winter. Yule Log? Well, DUH! Its the longest night of the year. Bring in the biggest log you have.

And for my land lubber friends, take care around the ocean this time of year. The full and new moons around the Solstice can experience extreme high and low tides.

Unfortunately, my good friends at the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District say I can not have my annual Solstice bon fire in the back yard tonight. During the residential wood burning rule making I lobbied for an exemption on the solstice for religious reasons. All I got were some strange looks from board members.

Happy New Year!
