Are there enough stones to go around the whole rim?

There are a number of circles at Stonehenege but the outer sarsen is incomplete . It may have been complete at one time but we dont' as not all of the monument has been excavated
and part of the area where there is a gap ,the SW , coincides with an unexcavated area . However a couple of years ago some parch marks were discovered which might have be the sites of where sarsens had stood , we won't know until they are excavated if this is the case . Don't hold your breath .

Re: Stonehenge
A lot of Stonehenge has been excavated and reexcavated. It may be the outer rim was complete but it is difficult to be sure as no one knows what it was for. It may not have been meant to be "finished" as we understand it
Re: Stonehenge
Fortunately there is good bit of that hasn't been excavated , about a third iiirc , most of which is to the west /south west .Simon21 wrote:A lot of Stonehenge has been excavated and reexcavated. This includes the area where there is a gap in the sarsen circle and also some Aubrey holes .
There is no shortage of requests , e.g. possibly another Aubrey or more ,and provenacing of a couple of the bluestone stumps , but one of the positive things about E.H. is that they don't grant permission too readily .
Re: Stonehenge
The recorded excavations have been quite intensive (of course there may have been more unrecorded) and there is the question whether any more is likely to be revealed given the disturbance that is likely to result. Geophysical surveys did not reveal any clear signs of holes in the sarsen circle. Not knowing what it was for, there is a tendency to assume that it must have been complete as a structure. It may never have been.
That is not to say that is the end of the matter of course.

Yes, it's quite possible that the outer sarsen circle was never completed or intended to be,Simon21 wrote:The recorded excavations have been quite intensive (of course there may have been more unrecorded) and there is the question whether any more is likely to be revealed given the disturbance that is likely to result. but as mentioned earlier the recent discovery of the parch marks in the right places are intriguing .
Plenty of time for them to be investigated by future generations .
