Old Kingdom Temple Unearthed in Egypt

Archaeologists say they've found a lost 4,500-year-old sun temple in Egypt
Archaeologists have uncovered what they believe to be one of Egypt's lost "sun temples," dating from the mid-25th century BCE.
The team uncovered the remains buried beneath another temple at Abu Ghurab, around 12 miles south of Cairo, mission co-director Massimiliano Nuzzolo, an assistant professor of Egyptology at the Polish Academy of Sciences' Institute for Mediterranean and Oriental Cultures in Warsaw, told CNN on Monday.

In 1898, archaeologists working at the site discovered the sun temple of Nyuserra, also known as Neuserre or Nyuserre, the sixth king of the 5th dynasty, who ruled Egypt between 2400 and 2370 BCE.

Among the findings were dozens of beer jars.

Now discoveries made during the latest mission suggest that it was built on top of the remains of another sun temple.
"The archaeologists of the 19th century excavated only a very small part of this mud bricks building below the stone temple of Nyuserra and concluded that this was a previous building phase of the same temple," Nuzzolo told CNN in an email.

"Now our finds demonstrate that this was a completely different building, erected before Nyuserra," he said.

The finds include seals engraved with the names of kings who ruled before Nyuserra, which were once used as jar stoppers, as well as the bases of two limestone columns, which were part of an entrance portico, and a limestone threshold.

Well you just can't have too many beer jars in a temple. Makes attending worthwhile!
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

Articles like that article irk the hell out of me. Using the word "Lost" in the title is very misleading. First of all, the sun temples aren't lost. They were never "lost". How in the hell can an unmovable, massive object such as a building be "lost"? Forgotten maybe, but NOT lost. Everything in the article belies that "lost" concept. They even stated that ancient texts tell us where ALL the sun temples are located... Then, we are told that an expedition in 1898 excavated a small portion of the temple in question. Yes, they erroneously assumed that what they found was merely an earlier section of the same temple founded by Nyuserra. But hey... It wasn't lost... it was STILL THERE. I'm not surprised that an older temple lay beneath the existing temple. Spaces that are considered sacred tend to remain sacred in people's opinion. Sometimes people will raze existing structures & rebuild on top of the foundations of the older structure. That's how a tel is formed. Do these people who call themselves journalists employ any type of critical thinking & reasoning skills? Do they not see the disconnect between their headline & the contents of the article??? (do they even care?) There's a big difference between "lost" & misidentified. SHEESH! *double face palm* *steps off soap box & gives it a good kick*

"Lost" takes up less space in the Headline than "Forgotten."

Lost, undiscovered, etc - usually except to the local people who may have known for thousands of years.
