Of what, allegedly
they look like cave openingsbut fom where who knows? i really wish people would WRITE SOMETHING WHEN THE POST A PICTURE, so the rest of us whpo cannot inspect the site personally can know what we are looking at and why.

though i have yet to see an ancient pyramid with openings like that in their base. what exactly are thse two pictures trying to prove?

Hello RK. I know that you won't see this until tomorrow (unless you're a real night owl), but I have a question.

You are an archaeologist. I accept everything you say regarding the difficulties in beginning or joining a new project.

Does the same thing hold true for an archaeologist who is employed by the government? (we've both heard some pretty nasty things about Bosnian archaeologists).

If the Bosnian government were to assign one or more of their employed archaeologists to go to this site, couldn't that very easily be done? Of course I know nothing about the Bosnian gov't.
Thanks

Mounds? That statement may have been a little "hasty" Doug.
Why? The first sentence on that web page reads "The pyramids of China are approximately 100 ancient mounds"

Another more technical word is tumuli.

We are not necessarily technicians.

This is all easily "googled". I really can't believe this.

Pyramid : this structure is solid.
it has a square foundation
it has 3-4 sides
those sides meet at an apex ( which by geometrical definition
makes the sides triangular)

Tumuli: these are earthen mounds and are usually used when referring
ancient sites in the UK. Also meaning a "cairn"

Mound: An earthen hill. Often used to describe native american burial
sites. (although Cahokia is a pyramid)

The Chinese 'pyramids' are actually mounds of earth covering the actual tombs. Some are pyramidal shaped, ok, but they aren't pyramids even in the sense of Silbury.

See
http://www7.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/ ... 001.3.html

which uses the phrase "tomb mound"

Even tourist sites use the word mound
http://www.imperialtours.net/terracotta_warriors.htm
"Often Emperors amassed huge burial mounds simply to divert robbers' attention from the true site of their tomb. So the artificial mound that today marks the Emperor's tomb does not necessarily indicate the location of its wondrous central chamber. However, because high mercury levels have recently been reported nearby, archaeologists think they may, at last, have discovered it. The Terracotta Warriors, that you will see today, form just one of the many barriers the ruthless Emperor employed to protect his tomb for eternity."

And the discussion at this forum:
http://www.asiafinest.com/forum/lofiver ... t3875.html
is interesting and has some great photos.

I am certainly far from the only person to call these mounds.

I agree with you Doug. Many people, including those writers in National Geographic, do it too.

Rather than belabor the point, I would invite you to refer to my own definitions above and check them for yourself in reputable sources.

Doug - I see by your signature that you are a moderator at the Ma'at forum. I looked in a while back when reference was made to it in the Daily Grail.

I also was impressed with an article from there that K. Reece posted here. I might join your discussion sometime.

Morning Beagle,
I suppose it would be easier for the Bosnian government just to appoint a few reknowned diggers to a project. All they would have to do is give them fixed-term contracts and pay their wages themselves. Trouble with that is that they might then pressure them to find what the government wants, and not what's actually there.
I can't remember if someone said the government is bankrolling this or not, but it would have to be massively in the country's national interests before they would do that, I think. There might also be some kind of personal friction with Osmanagich which is getting in the way too.
Yamemaru,
If those are tunnels, the people who allegedly built them must have been dwarves with the body mass of a modern supermodel!

These are probably natural, eroded from flow of water.I cant speculate that have or havent been used for other purpose.Mr Sam have given some pictoral hints from other openings and there have been cleary
sayed that have flown water in the past, and there have been found masive stone with inscriptions wich have been exavating internaly.
