I don't think R/W knows that this is not a formal dig/excavation, but instead an eroding hillside, Charlie.
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

Since I have seen no evidence of grids or "digging" I did assume that you were making surface finds either from recent flooding or some other form of natural ground movement.

Since there is little evidence of habitation, perhaps this was a work site, like the tule ovens here in the Willamette Valley?

I sure hope that I am not stepping on any toes, jumping into conversations like this. As an explanation for my very rude behavior, I am a student (in my old age) finally pursuing my dream. And I registered in this forum to expand my knowledge. So if I am allowed I may ask several more dumb questions.

Charlie loves talking about his rocks.

Funny about the charring. Just last night on Naked Archaeologist, Gabriel Barkay was pointing out to Jacobovici the charring on walls caused when the Romans burned Jerusalem. Of course that is a much drier environment than what you have but the burn marks were so clear that even Simcha could see them.

They are also exposed to the elements, however, unlike your rocks which were buried which leads to the conclusion that the burn marks you refer to are permanent. Yes?

I wonder if a brush fire could generate enough heat to char stone like that or if it would have to be something like burning a city?
