Moslems, Jews and Christians all worship the same God Marduk. Judaism and Christianity have progressed away from some of their nastier aspects, (Check punishment for gays in the bible), Islam, as practised by some have no relationship with the Quoran at all.
The book does not require a veil, does not condone poor treatment for women and condemns the killing of women and children, but Bin Laden claims to be a Moslem, so did SH. Look at those who murdered that women police officer. Pissed as a newt one minute, in the Mosque next morning and claiming to be good Moslems. They are an insult Islam.

If i'm reading you correctly then I think you nailed it. The press is coming from the big mouth radical fringe groups who do not represent the values of the religion. The same thing happens when christians bomb abortion clinics. Soon that radical element represents the millions of others who really don't support them. This is the tragedy of Islam. The majority are strangely silent!

Were the people any better off Manystones? The do gooders here say that Iraq has elected its first ever democratic government yet their ministers are at risk of their lives, some democracy. The only Arabs living in a democratic society are in Israel.

They might have been if the US and Britain hadn't intervened.
Qasim had risen to power in a revolution against one of the worst regimes the Middle East had ever seen (British backed).
Qasim proposed that Iraq benefit from it's own oil exports. This was considered a dangerous idea by the US and Britain.
The Qasim regime fell and he was subsequently executed. The coup was mastermined by William Lakeland and had effective backing from Britain.
The replacement was the Baath party. Saddam was a junior member.

Point taken Richard, but you have to admit that the Arabs have a terrible record of corrupt government.

IMHO "we" don't fair any better, we are just better at concealing it.
And as Marduk pointed out all in the name of God.

All in the name of God...truer words were never spoken today.
Whether anyone wants to acknowledge it we are seeing the first skirmishes in a very serious religious war which will make the crusades seem like child's play because this one is global. It will not matter if you stand for Moses' God, Jesus' God, Mohammad's God or NO god. It doesn't make you immune. Maybe I sound extremelist or alarmist myself but there is really good evidence there has been a systematic and long indoctrinization of the kings of the east (radical Islam) vs western Crusaders (Judeo-Christian) principles. Two generations of telling your children "hate your enemy" is about to bear fruit.
In the name of God, indeed.
Edit:
After reading this now, it seems alarmist even for me and I wrote the remarks. Please take it as a man's opinion who's a little tired at this point of the day. I hope what I said is wrong.

I think you should look at the casualty figures for both sides in that case
when you've done that you can look at the distribution of Nuclear weapons
the countries that follow Jehova are by far the more agressive
the other Moslem countries have agressive extremists
while the Christian ones have agressive governments
its no competition
Two generations of telling your children "hate your enemy" is about to bear fruit.
nope
its 2000 years of Biblical policy thats bearing fruit
thats very clear
