No one can say with certainty whether, in the past, CO2 drives temp or the other way around. personally I believe the temp rises preceed CO2 rises. However, the data is derived from Antarctica ice cores and really only accurate to a few decades.

I believe they encountered a few problems ...... in any case it will be a number of years before that model is good enough to produce anything meaningful.

'Nature' will not publish any papers on the subject that do not support the agreed dogma, if the evidence is so strong why is this sort of thing needed?

If you think that governments and industry will not work the 'big lie' take a look at the so called 'missile gap' of the cold war and what that cost the west, mainly the States.

The UK Govt is interested in climate change only insofar as it sees another money making scam .... And the media are largely only interested in it as a means of boosting revenue and profile with big scare stories.

However, as far as actually climate research goes, most of those involved are totally honest and genuine.

At the moment we await the IPCC's 4AR (4th Assessment Report) with great interest. It should at least be a bit more accurate that the recent Stern Review!

Actually, rising temps followed by rising CO2 levels makes as much sense as 'tother way round. Stern of course had a good act to follow, James Hansen told the US Congress in 1988 that global temps would have risen by 0.3 degrees C by the end of the century, but he was 300% over the top. Not a bad guess when you consider that he also claimed that sea levels would rise by some feet when in fact it was about one inch!

Yeah, I've seen that show before Min. Pretty well done. They went through a number of reasons, from volcanos, to diminished solar output, and the thermohalene cycle of the Gulf stream.

Probably both, but then again we aren't running the same agendas as those whose livelihoods depend on scaring the public into footing the bill for their paychecks. There's nothing like a global crisis to open pocketbooks. Reminds me of the corollary to Robin Hood's motto: "I steal from the rich to give to the poor ... and who could be poorer than me?"

You know, sometimes, seeking the "answer" for something obscures the fact that events can have more than one cause.

Perhaps the issue isn't "natural" OR "human" but "natural accelerated by human?"

Quite, and until we understand what those causes are, using them in computer programmes to predict future events is as useful as using a crystal ball or reading your mother-in-laws entrails. GIGO!

We're about as warm now as we were during the midievel warm period, and we're still warming up from the little ice age.

But as you say, humans are having an effect on the climate. The only question is - to what degree?

We've discussed this before, but not lately.

How about different races vs. different species, each naturally selected for the particular environment in which they lived. Note that Hss enters Europe after the Illinoisan Glacial, and probably during, or slightly after the Sangamon Interglacial Maximum (adaptation takes time). HNs was perfectly suited, or naturally selected, for the cold environment in Europe, during the Illinoisan. Then we see the dominance of Hss during the warmer periods, though small populations of "pure" HNs remain well into the Wisconsin. Global warming... All the southern peeps heading north to escape the heat and drought of the Sangamon? Hss and HNs intermingle. Hss migration to Europe and the Sangamon seem fairly linked.
