Yes - Agni. He wasn't just any ol' fire god. He was one of their principal gods and there are many in hymns praising him in the Rig-veda.

I don't think any symbols have come out of the Peru site yet? (Plse correct me if I'm wrong). The symbols of the Harappan Indus Valley script are pretty well known.

Looks like they have just made a similiar discovery in the Chichen Itza area. Some pre-Maya paintings and some cave paintings of a date after the Spanish arrived in the same cave. Evidently there will be some photos in the next few days.

2,900 BC is pretty close to when Caral was booming. The Maya were still living in caves or were they just using the caves for ceremonial purposes.
