Silly ass idea. One is more than enough.
I've had four, but only one at a time!

That would okay if they all had the same name.

Make one mistake on that and your life wouldn't be worth spit.

Been there, and done that...

You are very correct...

OK! Let's make a pact to, from now on, call every single one of 'em "Sheila"!
(Gotta hand it to 'em: the Ozzies had the right idea!)
And, for simplicity's sake, I suggest they call all of us "Tom".
Saves a lot of hassle.

It would seem that low melanin increased vitamin D, which made for better health. But why melanin is statistically related to adrenalin and seratonin is harder to sort out. But the clue lay in the ice age winter, where the real enemy was not other warriors, but Old Man Winter, and his main weapon, cabin fever.

Thus, the man who had lower adrenalin and higher seratonin was more able to sleep during winter and tolerate lower levels of activity without getting bored out of his gourd. And of course, having fair hair and pale skin helped with the vitiamin D problem. Thus, there's no need for the one without the other.

The last 10,000 years or so of Yeoman farmers passing the time by the hearth during long winters must have had an effect on character. This is most clearly seen in the German farmhouse, which used a single stove in the wall between the kitchen and living room to heat both, rather small, rooms. Those who could sit still, didnt burn many calories, and thus didnt need to eat much all winter. The one fire kept several people warm, but they had to *GET ALONG*. Thus, as the modern age evolved, they were able to sit still in school and study, and sit still in the office to shuffle paper.

China and Japan had similar conditions, with similar solutions, and similarly adapted to modern civilization. To expect those with high levels of melanin adapted for the tropics to do as well, is not realistic. And of course, blondes were favored because they had the lowest melanin of all.

latitude and attitude

Daybrown,

I agree there's gotta be a reason for blondes living in northern latitudes...
but there are none in northern Asia. Why not?

Plus even in Germany and other northern European countries there are a lot of dark-haired people who have survived. Maybe the Germans are highly disciplined, but why more so than the English or other people of similar latitudes?

Interesting speculation, though.

Blondes never evolved in Tasmania either, which is at 40 degrees *south* latitutde. And both in East Asia and Australia, if an ice age began, hominids were free to move twards the equator til they found tolerable conditions.

This was not an option in Europe. The Mediterranean stopped them. For the European Hidelburgensis, it was adapt or die. They adapted into the Neanderthal over the course of being stuck in Europe for 180,000 years. And one of the adaptations, since they invented clothes, and didnt need the melanin to prevent sunburn, was fair skin for vitamin D production.

So far as we know, Cro Magnon lived in East Asia and Australia for 40,000 years too, but never evolved the fair skin, altho I guess some Chinese & Japanese are pretty fair. Still black hair. The Inuit have also been above the artic circle for 20,000 years, but never evolved fair skin and hair either. This suggests that such a mutation takes longer than 20 or 40k. The only other option is the Neanderthal... who hybridized and passed the low melanin on.

As for the darker Europeans, of the 60 or so Y chromosome lines, many are also found in the Levant. Back then, there was nothing to prevent dark haired & skinned Semites from moving into Europe, as they still do.

Another factor is climate change, not only the ice age, but events like the Elder and Younger Dryas which created drought conditions that put people on the move. And while there are more fair haired in the North, and dark in the south, no matter where you go, you can find samples of either; the Europeans are much more mixed up than the Africans. Just from a face photo alone, you can discernl a Masai, Mbuti, Sahel, Bantu, and so on, and know where they came from.

Sykes, "The Seven Daughters of Eve" reports that there are *only* 7 mtDNA lines which are found *all over* Europe. There are 2 more in Finland. There are something like 160 mtDNA lines found so far in Africa. The reason? the Neanderthal/Sapiens hybridization caused birthing problems wiping out most of the mtDNA lines. This, as you can imagine, empowered the surviving women, which is still reflected in the relative power of European women, standning as it does, in stark contrast to women elsewhere.

And because the women were in power, they were able to choose tall dark and handsome if it tickled their fancy. With only 7 lines, they have a greater instinct for genetic diversity, and hence men of all colors are found in all regions of Europe.

woman in power?? new to me :)

I could say something there but...better not... :(

Well My first choice, (I am blonde naturly not from a bottle)

was a blond hair true blue eyed,
I totaly went for him. he was ok but I was young
and more mature
so we broke up.

next, brown hair, true blue eyes, ( a total jerk caveman)
and actualy he went after me so did I choose him or??
third, (current soon to be X)
Latin totaly"caveman" ( he really kept up choosing me.)

so that was the three of my entire life.

I thought I would do an experiment for my next endeavor:
dye my hair dark, and cut it in a real short bob.
Maybe I will attract a non-caveman??

What do you think??

There was no "Neanderthal/Sapiens hybridisation". We've discussed this in about three different threads so far, and you have yet to provide a single piece of proof beyond B/S theories spouted in the 1960s by so-called academics with a feminist agenda to promote.

wtrfall, First off, welcome to the club. Nice to have another female on board to help keep these raving maniac males in line. :P

No. 1, daybrown is a woman's libber, from the git go. All her posts end up with the "women in power" stuff. So unless you are also one, keep that in mind. As for me, I'm way too old for that.

No. 2, even though I am now gray (for the most part) I was once brunette. It's not just blondes who attract cavemen, I've had more than my share. As I've said in other forums, Neandertal DNA does exist becaue I've dated some and yes almost married a couple. I prefer dark eyes, so I married blue. Go tell.

Blondes may have more fun BUT brunettes ARE more fun.
