I'm told now that contrary to the recieved wisdom even reptiles and amphibians have a reasonable memory and, if they're pets, even recognise their owners. Not sure if this is true but at the last place I lived I got pretty close to all the frogs in the garden and I'd swear some of those little fellers started to regard me as some sort of er... maybe not comrade exactly, benign presence perhaps... I know that by midsummer there seemed to be a lot of frogs who stopped bothering to hop away whenever I showed up.

Mind you, some of them I raised from tadpoles in an old fish tank, so maybe they recalled me as the Great Provider of Flies and Worms from their tadpolehoods.
