What, in turn, engenders such behavior ?

It isn't petty squabbling between neighboring peoples.

Who recognise each other as, while perhaps annoyances, still people.
Huh? "People don't annihilate other people because they recognise them as people"...?

Did you miss the holocaust?

If what you mean by "the holocaust" is the hysterical and demonstrably absurd collection of propaganda allegations that have become institutionalised through incessant repetition, I haven't missed it at all. I've read a fair amount on it over the course of twenty years.

"The Holocaust" is to History what "Global Warming" is to Science.

The "infamous extermination camp" at Buchenwald, for example, had its own inmate orchestra and a brothel -- staffed and patronised exclusively by inmates. An Inconvenient truth, representative of many others.

Such as the physical impossibility of burning trenches full of bodies by dousing them with kerosene and setting them on fire, leaving no traces of them for archaeologists to unearth, and killing prisoners in transport vans by piping in diesel engine exhaust capable of producing only a mild headache. Not to even mention the supposed cremation of six million cadavers in crematory ovens that could, in theory (because not allowing for maintenance), probably not have handled even six thousand during the period of time they were in operation.

Faith in this (and it is a faith, operating in blithe disregard of evidence, reason and even common sense) requires one to say with Tertulian, Credo quia absurdum -- I believe it because sheer, unreasoning belief is the only way one can accept it.

I am sorry to hear that, Dig.

The whole thing was contrived and without any legitimate cause, unless ultimate control of the world by a small group, with everyone left alive a serf to them qualifies as "legitimate."

It was a tragedy for all involved.
Charles Higham wrote:What would have happened if millions of American and British people, struggling with coupons and lines at the gas stations, had learned that in 1942 Standard Oil of New Jersey [part of the Rockefeller empire] managers shipped the enemy's fuel through neutral Switzerland and that the enemy was shipping Allied fuel? Suppose the public had discovered that the Chase Bank in Nazi-occupied Paris after Pearl Harbor was doing millions of dollars' worth of business with the enemy with the full knowledge of the head office in Manhattan [the Rockefeller family among others?] Or that Ford trucks were being built for the German occupation troops in France with authorization from Dearborn, Michigan? Or that Colonel Sosthenes Behn, the head of the international American telephone conglomerate ITT, flew from New York to Madrid to Berne during the war to help improve Hitler's communications systems and improve the robot bombs that devastated London? Or that ITT built the FockeWulfs that dropped bombs on British and American troops? Or that crucial ball bearings were shipped to Nazi-associated customers in Latin America with the collusion of the vice-chairman of the U.S. War Production Board in partnership with Goering's cousin in Philadelphia when American forces were desperately short of them? Or that such arrangements were known about in Washington and either sanctioned or deliberately ignored?
