He may well have a strong argument, but that is not exactly a guarantee that he is correct is it?
Also it's worth remembering that by and large the main offenders in starting European wars have been but two. Germany and France.
Other countries have been dragged in, but rarely initiated them.
To use the same analogy, Denmark and Norway haven't fought each other for some time, but that hardly guarantees that they might not in the future.
By and large large federations simply field more troops, and where Belgium, for example, may hesitate to make war, giving her access to Germany's troops, for example, might actually encourage her rather than dispel the chances of conflict.
Roy.

You want 'guarantees' in life?Digit wrote:He may well have a strong argument, but that is not exactly a guarantee that he is correct is it?
Join Scientology, the Roman Catholic church, or Islam.
Lots of words obscure the essence. A.k.a. obfuscation. You're arguing for the sake of arguing. I did that when I was 7.Also it's worth remembering that by and large the main offenders in starting European wars have been but two. Germany and France.

When are you gonna stop?I did that when I was 7.
To suggest that it's either federation or warfare is scaremongering 'cos the president has run out of sensible arguments.
Somewhat like Hitler pre war!

Hey...Germany was attacked by Poland.
What's a fuhrer supposed to do?
What's a fuhrer supposed to do?
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

Re: We Should Do This
Cooperation statistically reduces the chances of war. It is as simple as that. But of course there are those who would rather sacrifice the relative security that cooperation brings in order to hang on to the in the 21st century redundant concepts of national pride, independence, and sovereignty. "Us and them" is their preferred way of looking at the world.
It's not mine.

Security from whom?
Let me just make sure what you and the president are saying.
Are you telling us that if the EU were to fold you Europeans would promptly start killing each other again?
Roy.

Re: We Should Do This
No you don't, you dodged the question actually. Also I would point out that the UK is about as much of 'Europe' as Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland or Sweden. On my maps they are marked as the Baltic States and Scandanavia.

Phew! That was a close shave. Glad you left "us" Norway, Ireland, and Switzerland. Very magnanimous of you. Or did they slip through the cracks?Digit wrote:I would point out that the UK is about as much of 'Europe' as Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland or Sweden. Oh and FYI: Iceland, Malta, and Russia upto the Urals and down including part of the Caucasus, are also geographically considered Europe...
Ah, well that explains it, doesn't it?Digit wrote:On my maps

Here's your answer: isolation breeds war.
Especially when it's an aggressive cranky old British spinster and a young continental Turk with only fun on his mind.

The metaphor couldn't be more apt!"He wants to play and she wants to tear his head off"

Phew, again a relief!BTW, I'm not the Lord.
I was already worrying about that 'blessing', since they usually turn out to be curses, plagues, fire and brimstone.
You shouldn't scare people, you know! It's not nice!
