Toto means baby, n'toto, a baby - presumably that is why the name was chosen.

I think you presume far to much. The word Toto is used in several languages, including Latin.

Italian: from a personal name of Germanic origin, Dod(d)o, Totto. Italian (Sicily): from the personal name Toto (a pet form of Salvatore or Antonio).

Greek (Totos): from Albanian toto 'priest'. It is sometimes found forming a surname in combination with personal names, as in Totogiannis 'John the priest'.
