It was part of the same system, yes, but it had a lot less lightning with it. We didn't lose any power.

After nine years in the military, I moved to Middle Tennessee in '79. The weather change is really noticeable. They are not kidding about global warming.

Bush thinks that it is 'junk science' but that creationism is for real.

It is up to you guys in the US to make sure people understand that global warming is no fairy tale .The danger is that this lovely planet could becomes inhospitable to every living creature and that the conditions for life itself could cease to exist .The pace things are worsening could even speed up exponentially as methane released from oceans and swamps will enter the equation .Stephan Hawkings claim we can transform Earth into a venuslike surrounding .I 'd love if our children have a future .It is up to you guys in the states to convince your electorate before it is to late .It is 5 to midnight .

Once again, Rene, we are up against these born-again christian assholes who think jesus is coming to destroy the world any moment so why bother worrying about something that is "years away." It's bad enough that they exist but when one of them gets elected president the prognosis is not good.

That's the big question! China and other emerging economies. Who should tell a person in China, who now is enjoying a higher standard of living, that he can't buy a car? Or have central heat and air for his home?

Given the population of some of these countries, the situation is grim. Even where you are at Rene, I imagine that everyone keeps hot water on demand. When we leave our homes here in the US for two weeks at a time - we continue to keep water hot 24/7, ready for us to come home. We don't even think about it.

Solar energy could keep the water hot. Replacing gasoline is the bigger problem.

A complete solar home energy system is currently beyond the means of most people, and depending on where they live, not practical.

But if everyone - on the planet - just had a simple solar hot water heating backup system, the results would be huge.

Well, after a sandwich and a cold beer - I must venture back into the yard to clear downed trees. It's coming along pretty well.

Maybe you could invent a solar powered chain saw?

Many Christian fundamentalists feel that concern for the future of our planet is irrelevant, because it has no future. They believe we are living in the End Time, when the son of God will return, the righteous will enter heaven, and sinners will be condemned to eternal hellfire. They may also believe, along with millions of other Christian fundamentalists, that environmental destruction is not only to be disregarded but actually welcomed -- even hastened -- as a sign of the coming Apocalypse.

These assholes are so ready to go see Jesus that they could care less how it happens. We'd all be better off if they just started killing themselves!
