I personally don't care about Bosnia, one way or the other. I do. however care about archaeology and I haven't seen it there. If it's being done properly and not destroying the heritage of the Bosnian people then I have no quarrel with it. I wish only the best for Bosnia, but it really doesn't concern me in any meaningful way. Let 'em dig the whole damn country up. See if I care.Minimalist wrote:I think google probably needs to work on their translation services.
Frank, I call myself an "armchair archeaologist" in deference to people like you and Charlie Harrist. You are, in my opinion, a true amateur archaeologist - actually out doing it instead of reading about it. Anyway, I agree with your post.
My name's Harrist. Charlie's is Hatchett. I have, of late been of the armchair type, as I haven't been out in the field doing much. I enjoy talking about it with ya'll more than gettin' out there and sweatin'. I still get out in the field occasionaly, but not as much as I use to. I'm still with the Texas Historical Commision, so I'm still an active steward. I had some health problems the past few years and even though I'm healthy now I'm way out of shape and got in the habit of being a lazy SOB. But I'll be back out there when it cools off a little.Beagle wrote:Frank Harrist wrote:Indeed! As for Bosnia, it is not my place or anyone's here to try and stop the dig and I do not believe anyone here is actively seeking to do so. So Bosnian dudes, just relax and don't let our mouthing off about stuff upset you. We are just voicing our opinions. Opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one and most of them stink.

Merci Irna pour la traduction,
FaraonVisoko,
Cordialement,
Irna
PS Sorry for the non-french speakers, I'm too lazy to translate this ; in fact, it has all allready been told in the pyramid thread, the necessity for scientific argumentation and so on...
Cordialement,
This is getting scary. I took Spanish and Latin a long time ago. That doesn't mean I can speak a lick of either one.
But I think I can pick this out a little.
Irna, he is obviously thanking you for the translation. Also I think he states that he is in favor of what Os is doing. And finally, I think he has some nice compliments for the pictures on your website. I'm not sure, but he may have asked for your help in the future also.

Or, a date.
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

It seems to be the only one I ever have an opportunity to use.
"Vive L'Empereur, en avant a la bayonette", rarely comes up in normal conversation anymore.

Irma,
He seems to be promising some pretty exciting (he says) photos of the dig next week, in a large format.
Apart from that, his original post is the usual Bosnian testosterone...you know, we can't possibly know anything 'cos we're not there, we're jealous of 'em, blah-de-blah. This lot can't expect much respect from ANYONE until they learn to stop taking criticism of anything as an affront to their national pride. And I've been saying that for months now.

Cordialement, Irna
