I remember when Tut's Treasure's toured New York. The lines were wrapped around the block to see it.
There was also an amusing incident at the Brooklyn Museum back in the mid-1990's. An otherwise mundane exhibit of modern art suddenly became a hot issue because one artist had created a picture of Jesus and Mary out of elephant dung. The mayor, Rudy Giuliani, ever a headline grabbing phony!, denounced the exhibit and demanded it be removed. The church joined in the denunciation. The result, predictably, was a financial bonanza for the museum as crowds lined up to see what all the fuss was about!
I often wondered how much they paid Giuliani to make those comments.
