Thanks RS, you and my wife to!
As far as I can find out the pen pushers who now run it receive private medical care as part of their salary package.
Ain't that an incentive?
I was asked by an apologetic nurse if I would mind walking to the theatre as no porter was available. I said I had no problem with that but that I hoped I would not have to walk back after surgery! She laughed and said things weren't that bad, but check again in a couple of months!
Efficiency isn't about reducing staffing levels to the point that staff are running around, it is based on giving staff the time, equipment and training to carry out their tasks satisfactorily. An understanding that seems completely lacking amongst the managers.
I came around from the anaesthetic in the recovery room, as I had felt sick from the epidural catheter earlier I was on oxygen and this brought around too early and I still had a probe in my carotid that should have been removed before I came round. There was panic as five nurses and the consultant attempted to complete their tasks in a tiny room that was so packed with electronics that the staff couldn't even pass by any other staff who were tending me!
Don't misunderstand me RS, the medical staff are fantastic, but they should not have to work in this manner. A nurse who gave me a bath told me that she worked several days each week to pay for a private education for her daughter and private medical care for her family!
I eventually signed myself out too weak even to stand and my son took it upon himself to find a wheel chair and push me to the car park and my wife and the district nurse took over my care here at home.
It could be, if they left it to the medical staff to run it!Ain't the NHS a great system!

It could be, if they left it to the medical staff to run it!
But that would take all the excitement out of it!
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

I've got no love for the NHS generally. So far as I'm concerned they killed my landlord, Bill - one of the nicest old boys I've ever had the pleasure to meet. 86 and he'd smoked 40 a day all his life (and with no trace of the big C oddly enough), despite which he still got around pretty good. He went in for a hip operation and one week later was dead from unrelated complications which seem likely to me to have resulted from nicotine withdrawl. When I visited him I got the impression that none of the people working there gave a shit. When I complained to a nurse about his hearing aid needing a fresh battery (he'd run out at home) and the lack of this meant he couldn't actually hear anything being said at all, she responded that it was okay because he seemed to know what they meant if they shouted and gestured at him like English football fans trying to order egg and chips in Turkey. I hope I go in my sleep. Or in battle, obviously.Rokcet Scientist wrote:Ain't the NHS a great system!
Welcome back, Dig.
We'll spoonfeed you back to archaeological health here!
Sorry about the rant.
Good to see you back, Digit. Swift recovery.
That wasn't a rant WA, you wanna hear me when I get started! But I exclude the medical staff and blame who ever pushes them into that situation.
I was operated on at a hospital in Swansea, 2 days after I left the government sent inspectors in to look around. They found some dirty towlels under a hand basis and pics were posted on TV.
I was spitting flames! Our target obsessed government gives the nursing staff insufficient time to carry out their duties then publicly crucifies them!
It stinks!
After I returned home my nursing care was taken over by nurses, (and my wife), these nurse are not working in hospitals but within the community, and they have time to talk to you, time to answer your questions, deal with any fears you might have in a life threatening situation and to help your family. Bless 'em all!
KB, the figures were published in either the Telegraph or the Sun newspapers, I can't now recall which. Perhaps the net can help.
A PS here WA, I also use a hearing, aid which need the flexible tube replacing at the time I was admitted. When I surfaced in the recovery room the aid had been removed, repaired, replaced in my ear and switched on!

Sorry there has been no news posted for two days. I have been involved with a fund raising event for 500+ people that came to fruition last night. It has taken 16-18 hour days for the last three weeks to pull off. So.....I took the day off to sleep!!!
Back to your regularly schedule program tomorrow.....
Keep up the discussions!

That probably explains why we had about three dozen pill-pushers and sex merchants registered as new members of late.MichelleH wrote:Sorry there has been no news posted for two days. What I don't understand is what a machine calling itself viagrafun75 thinks it is likely to achieve by registering itself on an archaeological forum. If the last few weeks are anything to go by, I don't think we really need any more censored around this place.
By the way, is there any chance of altering this subforum so the most recently posted-in threads appear at the top of the menu?
