Don't forget that Neandertal lived side by side with H. Sapiens for 20,000 yrs. That was in the Levant. Then, 95,000ya H. Sapien disappeared from the area.

Although disputed by some, it seems that hybrid individuals have been discovered in the Levant. This was nearly 50,000 yrs. before Neandertal in Europe went extinct.

I'm struck by the statement of the genetic researcher after 30kya DNA from a Cro-magnon specimen was compared to modern Europeans. Paraphrasing - we can tell that Cro-magnon is definately related to us.

That statement says a great deal.

The tools found in the Americas ALL belong to a modern human lithic industry. There are no crude hand axes or choppers at ancient levels. No Oldowan, Acheulian, or Mousterian. Even if most of the sites were coastal and from a period of low sea levels worldwide it is very unlikely that ALL the sites would be underwater. I would expect that at least some stone tools of a pre-modern type would be found in the Americas if there were archaic human populations in the Americas. To date there have been none.
Hi, Free Thinker. Would you like me to send you tools found in the Americas that are NOT a product of a modern human lithic industry? 8)

I hate to invite more pictures of rocks but if you could take a few photos, host them on photobucket or 81x and post them it would be great.

That should certainly advance the discussion and we may even entice Charlie back.

You know how he loves pictures of rocks!

I live about an hour from the Calico, California site. I was skeptical of the Calico dating, but felt it was worthwhile to go look for myself. After almost two years of looking I found a tool site on a hill, up from the shore of Lake Manix, about five miles east of the Calico site. According to orthodoxy the lake catastrophically drained about 16000bce. One scientist has dated the lithics to 18-20000bce based on the cation/ratio method. This is typical of what I pick up:

A prominent scientist told me that there are no hand axes in North America. Yet, I have dozens of bifacial specimens. Some have finger grooves for left or right-handed use. Who made them? I don't know, but they aren't Clovis. And since some specimens have a dozen flakes per side, they aren't just "sharp rocks".

Those are pretty exciting. Some other rock lovers are going to want to see these. We did a Calico discussion some time back. Stand by for some discussion.

Fascinating.

They certainly do not look like this...identified as a Clovis spear point found on the shores of Lake Michigan.

20,000 year ago would certainly be pre-Clovis, but still modern human era, no?

Yes that would H. Sapien, Barracuda.

With these pictures it might be good to post them to the old Calico Dig thread.
