Yeah, Schoch is a hyperdiffusionist. These days however, it's the orthodox group that replies to the word by saying "Atlantis". Actually it seems that I ONLY hear the word from mainstreamers anymore.

There is an argument about HD somewhere. I'll go find it.

i am actually tired of hearing about atlantis. it is like being forced to watch titanic the movie over and over again. of course i have my own theories about that hypothetical civilization and i can see how it fits the minoan society as well but enough is enough.

i wish they would let it die but people fall for that type of fantasy and do not want to hear the truth.

Yeah - if, and that's a big if, there is a shred of truth behind the Atlantis story by Plato, it would have to be the Minoan civilization. IMO

so Plato was wrong then

According to Plato, he was only repeating an older story. It's a myth. Some myths have shown to be fact based however. I don't have an opinion beyond that.

none of the details match Minoa
not one of them
people that claim they do haven't read Timaeus or Critias at all
they just go on the assumption that what he says matches the details
in reality he was very careful about the facts that he included in the texts

its either 100% fact based or a complete fabrication

either way does not point towards santorini being poseidon

What don't you understand about the term "fact based myth" ?

please prove that. i have seen far too many documenteries and read far too many articles and books that line up some of the details, if not most.

who originated the original story? and where did they get the idea from?

There is no point in pursuing that with Marduk. If you notice, he states that the "myth" is not true because Minoa is not exactly correct.

There are some things in this world, that if you have to explain them, you're wasting your time.

Supposedly, Solon of Athens learned the story from Egyptian priests.

Of course, in Plato's story Athens defeated the Atlantians a mere 8 millenia before Athens existed. There are thus a few holes in the story.

Unfortunately, the story of Atlantis won't just go away since Solon dates the deluge at 9,600bce which happens to be the termination of the Younger Dryas. If he had chosen a different date, Beagle might get his wish. Of course, Athens wasn't there in 9,600bce.

I do happen to like the Atlantis site with the cool aliens from Xylanthia purely because of the cartoonish pictures. Doesn't anyone here read fiction?

http://atlantis-today.com/Great_Atlantis_Flood.htm

By the way if you look into the generation of the story further, you will find that Solon only gathered notes while in Egypt and was going to write an epic. But upon returning to Athens he was preoccupied with the tyranny established by Peisistratus and died before writing anything. Even Plato died before finishing Critias ... so don't worry Beagle, the story of Atlantis is cursed!

once again Beagle you are not crediting that I might possibly know more about this subject than you know is actually available
at the 2005 Atlantis conference at Mihos they drew up a list of things that need to be satisfied if Atlantis is ever to be found
here they are
1. The Metropolis of Atlantis should have been located where an island used to be and where parts of it may still exist.
2. The Metropolis of Atlantis should have had a most distinct geomorphology composed of alternating concentric rings of land and water.
3. The Atlantis should have been located outside the Pillars of Hercules.
4. The Metropolis of Atlantis was greater than Libya and Anatolia and Middle East and Sinai (combined).
5. Atlantis must have sheltered a literate population with metallurgical and navigational skills.
6. The Metropolis of Atlantis should have been routinely reachable from Athens by sea.
7. At the time, Atlantis should have been at war with Athens.
8. The Metropolis of Athens must have suffered a devastating physical destruction of unprecedented proportions.
9. The Metropolis of Atlantis should have sunk entirely or partly below the water.
10. The Metropolis of Atlantis was destroyed 9000 Egyptian years before the 6th century B.C.
11. The port of Atlantis was 50 stadia (7,5 km) from the city.
12. Atlantis had a high population density, enough to support a large army (10,000 chariots, 1,200 ships, 1,200,000 hoplites)
13. The region of Atlantis involved the sacrifice of bulls.
14. The destruction of Atlantis was accompanied by an earthquake.
15. After the destruction of Atlantis, the passage of ships was blocked.
16. Elephants were present in Atlantis.
17. No physically or geologically impossible processes were involved in the destruction of Atlantis.
18. Hot and cold springs, with mineral deposits, were present in Atlantis.
19. Atlantis lay on a coastal plain 2000 X 3000 stadia surrounded by mountains falling into the sea.
20. Atlantis controlled other states of the period.
21. Winds in Atlantis came from the north (only in Northern hemisphere)
22. The rocks in Atlantis were of various colors: black, white, and red.
23. There were canals for irrigation in Atlantis.
24. Every 5th and 6th year, they sacrificed bulls.
as you can see hardly any of them match Minoa
this list was drawn up by the most accomplished scholars of atlantis lore
of course though
you know better right

Marduk - I just made a post to Cognito about this very thing. In short, I don't begrudge you believing anything you want.

I am not some crazy person who feels that everyone has got to believe as I do. I don't get involved in the Bible discussions for example.

So believe the Atlantis story. You don't have to prove anything to me.
