True, Ishtar, you pal Marduk was positively apoplectic when NIOT released the C14 dates for some wood they found in the Gulf of Khambay. We had a big argument about that one.

I missed that....can you remember the dates they came up with?

As I recall, the wood artifact initially found was dated to 7500bce. However, until there is a decent underwater archaeological expedition it will be difficult to determine what is really at that location. The wood could have easily washed down river in ancient times so what really needs to be found is wood from an ancient structure that can be analysed.

A city in the Gulf of Khambay isn't out of the question, but it needs better clarification and characterization. Jericho's massive walls were originally built between 8600-8300bce and other settlements were built in the area at the same time. Interestingly enough, these cities were established as a central point for hunter-gatherers and opportunistic agriculturalists (ie they grew wild grains). I learned in school that agriculture allowed the establishment of cities. Nope. Not always true, certainly not in the case of Jericho and the other, older cities in the Near East.
