But in the Schoch discussion it can also be a red herring I think. Schoch has stated that he would like to provide a more conservative date to his estimated construction of the Sphinx but he was using the available paleoclimatology for the area.

New data in that area has been developed in the past 14 years.

In fact there is less likelihood of being jumped on as soon as you get there than there is here....as long as we have some members who are so defensive and apparently have some kind of phobia against new people. There is nothing wrong with THOM so I wish ya'll would stop trashing it every chance you get. If you're not intelligent enough to post there then don't. Construction of pyramids first began in quarries where men chiseled granite blocks until they were the exact shape needed.

The majority of the pyramids are made of limestone, which is a good thing considering the Ancient Egyptians only had copper chisels.

in gettingback to the topic of this thread, can anyone itemize what schoch has really contributed to archaeology? that is , that which is as as valuable as his theory on the sphynx (though i am sure some do not think it was valuable).

actually there is. limestone is a specific type of stone and has limitations. the word 'stone' is a general word which includes all stones and if you are not specific, then you are either misleading someone or referring to something other than what is normally there.
