Is the 2012 apparent event the first in 5000 years?
In other words, has it been happening, but we just haven’t seen it?

We've seen it, but its only recently that someone has tried to connected it to 2012 hysteria. The odd thing is, the proponents split hairs down to arcsecond accuracies and then claim the ancient possessed these remarkable skills for determining celestial mechanics and positions. And yet, the center of the galaxy is really an imaginary line of coordinates agreed by the International Astronomical Union during modern times.
