All -

It boils down to this

Porn absolutely excluded.

Women.

Our better half.

You can juke and jive all you want,

But you won't get past

The essential relationship.

And by the way, men

Are equally women' better half,

For apposite reasons.

So go figure.

hoka hey

Sorry Popelane - for what it's worth I don't think that's a bad idea you have there, though it's not necessarily something I'd place money on. I know a couple of people have suggested that porn is a modern thing due to the invention of shame - so to speak - though personally I'm not so sure. I'd say some taboos may go way back.

Crikey!
Maybe er... one of them's lost a contact lense and the others are helping. Did they have contact lenses in Pompeii?

Well, then surely this must have been Pilates in Khajuraho, India:

And how about all those thousands of depictions, reliefs, of Pharaoh – some of them 20 feet tall – with a gigantic erect penis sticking out in true hiëroglyphic fashion, which in later, puritan times were all crudely hacked away? The most important, most sacred rituals in ancient egyptian temples were sexual rituals.

Sexual rituals were the norm in religion for many millennia.
The last two seem to be the exception.

Could there be a link with the ascent of monotheistic religions? Are single gods prudes? Well, being single we know they gotta be wankers, right?

Well, I guess I was just thinking that perhaps some or many of the "idols" they found had purposes other than for religion. Thinking that maybe we read too much into what we find sometimes.

Minimalist, was that image from Pompeii on a wall? Some pottery? Where did you find that and what is it painted on?

It is interesting to find out that Pharaoh had an erect penis most of the time! I never heard of that until now...

And those images from India must have been in some sort of palace or religious centre. But surely it was pilates.

I believe it was a wall fresco. When I was in Pompeii the guides were careful to point out all the erotic paintings on the walls of the brothel.

I guess you needed something to make up for the fact that the beds were made of stone.

Of course you hadn't, popelane: in western, christian society one does not speak of, nor show/depict erect penises*. Imagine you'd have to teach the kids at school about Pharaoh, the real Pharaoh, 'Pharaoh with the Big Dick', with a slide show in full color.... So the subject is simply ignored. Killed in silence. This is a prime example of how people's perceptions of reality get warped by (the censor of) their religion.

*look at those censored images in my above post! Another example! Right before your eyes!
Couldn't have asked for better timing...

This is the precise mechanism that's deprived us of huge swathes of (pre)history: 'religious' manipulation.

Following that line of thought RS, I have to thank you for the PICS of the Hindu temple.
I had never seen PICS there taken at less the a half mile distance before.

Well, RS, I for one am very grateful to photobucket for quickly stepping in and safeguarding my moral wellbeing. Of course, had they stepped in a few weeks earlier I would not have become corrupted by those images and thus found myself having sexual intercourse with trees on Peckham Rye during the interim...

I blame society.

Don't forget to blame your parents, a problematic childhood, and Bush...
