"I do not feel that these are artificial"
I second Min's response!! We need to start a "Classic Quotes" thread!!
This one still cracks me up:
I feel like I've just strolled up to Stephen Hawking and asked "so, dude - like atoms must be real small huh?"

And, remember that there are no "hand axes" in the Americas.
Now, all together class: "There are no "hand axes" in the Americas".

With the characters that participate in these threads, the "Classic Quotes" thread would end up longer than the two Bosnia threads combined...OR longer than the perpetual Min-Arch skirmish.

So. That would be a bad thing?

Min, it would be a good thing! There is some really great stuff in our 19297 bits and pieces here.

Michelle, can't we just start a bible studies link and keep everything biblical in that location? Or, must we continue to suffer through one person's ongoing crusade to convince everyone here that the bible is to be taken literally in all instances? Maybe I should recruit an Islamic imam, Hindu sage and Buddhist monk to even things out?

He's being much better than he was before, Cogs.
At least I have him talking about artifacts for the most part. I call it 'progress.'

OK, but can I still recruit the non-believers?

I think I'll throw a modern-day Druid into my previous mix. There's nothing like a pagan to spice up the day!

Of course, one should choose one's battles wisely. (And I'm not real good at that yet...) Nonetheless, although it can be hard to see in the deluge of images, Charlie almost certainly has genuine artifact material of a kind not generally recognized. I'm thinking specifically of the simple limestone zoomorphs much like some from the site I have been investigating here in Ohio, these having been identified by doctorate-level lithics specialists as artificially modified. (Predictably, local members of the "Club" - as Minimalist would say - present their scientifically unassailable counterargument "I do not feel that these are artificial"). I'd also speculate that there might well be "pre-Clovis" material in that mix, or at least farther down (as at Topper), given that people seem to have been in that area for a very long time. Also, Charlie's material suggesting prehistoric smelting should be taken seriously, at least to the extent of properly investigating it. Another Ohio site (not my own - one I'm helping with) has yielded metal and slag in direct context with diagnostically Late Archaic points and other artifacts buried 1.5 meter beneath undisturbed terrain. Similar-looking material has also shown up in West Virginia - haven't had a chance to personally take a look at this.
Given the resources in Charlie's area, he should have received a visit by one of the many professionals, or at least some intelligent advice. But what actually happened was that Dr. Michael Collins at TARL just threw him off track temporarily by telling him, with regard to limestone, "...anything of preClovis age would be so completely eroded that its original shape could not possibly survive". (Well... So much for the Venus of Willendorf, and apparently the sharp and beautiful markings on the Clovis-age limestones at Gault...) I must say, I would not have taken that kind of abuse as graciously as Charlie has.
Regards, Alan
Charlie knew I was just picking at him. I know he has found some very important artifacts and he has a very, very important site. I'm only suggesting that he stick with his site and stay away from the more controversial sites such as the San Diego site he read about and that we have been discussing for months now. Sorry you got the wrong idea from that post, AD. Charlie and I are buds and I have offered what help I was able to offer on his site in central Texas. I realise that with such an adundance of artifacts in such a small area that everything tends to look like an artifact after a while. But sometimes it's just a rock.

Very true. But if they graduated to making iron tools those would have rusted away millenia ago and we'd still be left with just the rocks, wouldn't we?

Well, Min, you being one of the veterans of classic quotes, it's only appropriate that you should handle the honors of starting the thread.

Here's something would I go for. I would these LOVE to see contributions. While not a religious individual, there are pieces of the individual/secular mythologies that might lend clues to or support facts already in evidence. How could you not want to look at that potential evidence?????
Here's the flip side. By expanding into other religions, there is no way to ban discussions on Christianity (
AS IT IS LIMITED TO ARCHAEOLOGY), and thus by extension, banning those that discuss it.
Do not misunderstand me. I am not a believer in any unverified 'truth'. But I would like to see more from the other reglions/mythologies of the world.
How's that for a can of worms.....
PS...this belongs in aother thread...not disrupting the current

No, Frank, I'm pretty sure you've destroyed my inner child for life, so now, anything that happens to me, will be your fault! My expensive physiatrist told me I'm now going to require therapy for another year...

I don't work well under pressure, Charlie.
What ever happened to the idea of creating a few separate forums, Michelle? That would seem to be the easiest way to sequester the sane from the insane.

I think you should sue, Charlie.
No problem, Frank - I inferred from the tone that it was just a jovial poke in the eye; no doubt he needs this from time to time. I just wanted to put in a good word for Charlie (and thereby also seize a fun opportunity to vent).
