I read the Conquest of New Spain a few years and found it a ripping good read! Even though some people say it's fiction.
Is this the W.H. Prescott one?
No, Bernal Diaz...an eyewitness to the fall of the Aztecs. I assume you have read it. I couldn't think of Diaz' name when I mentioned the book.

BTW, I really enjoyed visiting Cardiff and listening to the children speak both Welsh and English.

Oh Diaz - yes, that too was a good read although I'll admit certain predjudices prevented me from warming to the author, although to be fair I do seem to remember him being equally scathing about the excesses of his fellow conquistadores'. Diaz (along with, I think Clavijero - I could be wrong) was a major source for Prescott, so if you liked that I'd certainly also recommend him. The books in 2 volumes and it looks like it'll take a year to read, but it's quite hard to put it down and you end up tearing through it in no time at all.
And off topic, here's another pro-Welsh vote. If I don't end up living in Mexico, I'll happily settle for north Wales. Great place and great people.
