In particular, scroll down to the one marked "Caidian." While these tend to be fairly ornate I can see the potential hint of the "swept hilt" type of rapier. (One side curves up, the other down.) A side shot of the artifact would be more helpful but you've got what you've got.
The rapier was in fashion until the beginning of the 18th century and, of course, the existing ones would have remained in service for as long as they could hold an edge....especially in the colonies.

Their jobs are not in jeopardy, FT. It's their reputations they worry about.
