He certainly cannot change a historical timeline.

In my view, "leadership" is a quality, where even if the Mayor and Governor did not believe what was going to happen to them, the President should have had enough "leadership" to convince them. I also think Bush Jr's FEMA appointees and followup were lacking.

It would have simply been illegal for the Feds to come in until invited.

The reason we don’t have any of this kind controversy in AL, MS, or FL is those states declared an emergency and invited Fed help.
There doesn’t seem to be any complaints coming from them as to the ability of the Fed people.

For what ever reasons, LA tried to go it alone, blew it badly, and now tries to complain about it.

Come Hell or High Water. I think the LA governor's statement, "Mr. President, we need everything you have," should have been enough.

NO and LA got hit a whole lot harder than any of those other states you mention.

There were plenty of failures in this tragedy, so putting it ALL on any one person is simply not fair, whether that was the acting President, earlier Presidents, Senators, Representatives, Governors, and Mayors.

I suppose on the upside at least we're not discussing AGW yet again on what is suppose to be the archaeology bbs.

Slight quibble here, E.P. Bush was satisfied ( "You're doing a hell of a job, Brownie") but that quote got him in such hot water that his advisors forced him to dismiss the bum.
