That was Helike, I believe. The story of what happened there has been proffered before as a possible root of the Atlantis myth. Doesn't hurt that it happened during Plato's youth, and not all that far from where he lived at the time.

They've got a new show, by the way, that focuses on ancient technologies. Looks fairly interesting as well, and the first one didn't say anything about ancient astronauts or Annunakis etc. What a relief.

Much better than Drive Through History....which had me almost gagging last night as they fucked over the Roman Empire.

Bernstein showed up on Jon Stewart's Daily Show not too long ago and admitted that he was not an archaeologist. AT least he does not generally argue with his experts as Jacobovici did 1,000 times on The Naked Archaeologist.

I have played with the NASA World Wind application a little more and have succeeded in displaying the sea level which was 120m lower at the end of the LGM. If there is a particular area you would like to see, let me know and I will post an image.

The resolution is not a good as Google Earth but it is a very interesting application, nevertheless. There are many scientific visualizations possible.

If you like, Monk. I'm interested in whether or not there was a land bridge at any time. If you've already viewed it, it's ok to just tell me what it showed.

These are form the end of the LGM when the Med is 120m lower than today.
Here is the area around Malta. Ialy and Sicily are connected (barely perceptable) but there is no visible land bridge:

Prehistoric humans roamed the world's largest desert for some 5,000 years, archaeologists have revealed.

The Eastern Sahara of Egypt, Sudan, Libya and Chad was home to nomadic people who followed rains that turned the desert into grassland.

When the landscape dried up about 7,000 years ago, there was a mass exodus to the Nile and other parts of Africa.

The Sahara desert is probably the poster child of climate change. At one time most of humanity probably lived there.

One thing though, that I've wondered about, is that every source you read says that the Sahara recieved huge volumes of rain during the mid-holocene. But then they go on to describe the area as a lush savannah.

It would seem to me that in several thousand years it would be a rain forest.

I saw a map of what it would have looked like once. It was covered with rivers and lakes.
